Lets first specify what Skyline you are talking about.

I will assume you are either talking about the R32, R33, R34 or the V35.

The R series never made it to the US due to many restrictions. You can only import it from Japan. Most people know the Skyline also as the GT-R.

The V35 was first produced in 2001 in Japan and made it to the US in 2003 under Nissan’s luxury division Infinity under the name of G35.

The 350Z (Fairlady Z in Japan) also known as the Z35 (following the 300ZX line for the Z31 and Z32) shares basically the same engine with the V35 (G35). It makes no sense to compare the 350Z and the G35 as we already know the G35 has a little less power, and is heavier, making the 350Z faster and giving it better performance and handling.

Now, if you are comparing the 350Z against the R series, lets say the R34 GT-R, then you can only go for a 350Z if you keep them both stock. The 350Z has better technology, is of course new compared to the old Skylines, and is probably more reliable because of the same reasons.

But a R34 has the best advantage: turbos. A little modification make it right away faster and more powerful.

If you are looking to get a car to do lots of mods and increase the power a lot, you need to look for turbos, so the Skyline would be the way to go. But, you have the problem of importing it, making it legal here, etc, etc. Unless you have a lot of money and you are ready to spend it on an old car, then you should consider cars that are already here, like the 300ZX Twin Turbo, the Supra or the RX-7.

There is one more beast that nobody has talked about and is the new GT-R. Note that it has nothing to do with the current Skyline (G35). Nissan decided to create a new model based on the GT-R using a chassis similar to the G35, and using the same engine (VQ35) but made 3.7 L..

In fact, the next generation Skyline, wish is the V36, has two engines: 2.5 and 3.5 L. A new coupe is supposed to replace the current with the new 3.7 L engine, and that same engine is the one as I just said that will be on the new GT-R using Twin Turbos and a new AWD system and AWS system as well (a new improved HICAS system from Nissan).

The new GT-R will be available in Japan by Fall, and here in the US at the beginning of 2008. It is said that the engine is capable of over 500HP, but will be probably tuned down to about 470HP due to restrictions (hint hint for mods). With the AWD and AWS and a new paddle shifter robotized transmission, expect for the GT-R to be the ultimate Japanese sports cars, until Toyota and Honda can release a new generation Supra successor and NSX as well.

If you have the money (aprox $70,000) then wait for the GT-R, it will be worth it. I am waiting too.

Nissan skyline, they have way more potential than a nissan 350z, and no doubt it will hands down smoke a 350z whether it's a straight down race or twists and turns road. With a few mods added to a skyline it is capable of producing above 700-800 horses, and even without internal upgrades yet.

Many skylines have been modified to produce over 1000 horsepower. Nissan 350z mods are difficult to work with, being that it will need to be fully modded in order to reach close to 1000 horsepower.

Hands down, Nissan Skyline is the better.

That depends what you want to do with the car because they are two totally different cars. The skyline is made for touring, street racing and quick quarter mile times. Whereas the 350z is good for drifting because of the high powered n/a powered rear wheel drive set up.
So if you are going to use the car for racing it would have to be a Skyline as they are easily tuned and can have more than 1000bhp. I have even read about one heavily moddified Skyline with 1600bhp.
But if you are going drifting you would be better off in a 350z because of the rear wheel drivbe set-up that can be used to fling the car around and pour out a lot of smoke.

The Nissan Skyline is a lot better than a Nissan 350Z.

The answer is the skyline.they are both great cars and at the end of the day.
Your comparing an older car to a brand new one and even at that rate the skyline can easily be tuned even with its age to easily beat a z.If you want to compare a new 350z to a new Skyline then once again the Skyline will win.
And before it goes on the Skyline isnt overrated, and from people whom have never seen or been in one.

There getting cheaper to get in the US with many owners owning r32 r33 r34 versions for street use.

Dude this is not even a question...350z's are not even close to a skyline...The RB motors in the skyline will kill almost any car out there....pluse you'll turn more heads with a skyline if you get a right hand drive....

Depends on what you mean by better and which Skyline naturally aspirated or turbo. In my opinion if I was concerned about global warming and (everyone should be) it would be the 350z otherwise a fully tuned turbo skyline.

skyline both great cars but the skyline is a true legend and has been since 1957 and over the years won many many events .

The z is a great car and tunable but with the turbo model of the Skyline which is more tunable and with the extra room makes it an all round road and track use car.

But they are both great cars and unfair to challenge each other really.

But i hate people whom dish the Skyline and most havent even ever seen one.

I hate there look someone said on here well which one its been around since the fifities all shapes a particular shape.
turbos non turbos twin turbos each have different shapes.

Skyline was never a American car so parts can be a real problem unless you speak Japanese. 350Z in several versions is a real sports car with a few modifications can really hold its own at the road racing track. 306 HP now the 2007 Z with Brembo Brakes can even post good lap times. Trust me you could do a lot worse buying anything else.

Skyline hands down! The car is pretty rare, especially here in the United States, and plus don't forget the 500 horse power!
