I was just wondering because some Christians seem to have gotten the idea that they invented marriage. Nearly every civilization practices some form of marriage and has for thousands of years. When marriage originated it had nothing to do with religion, but was practiced for economic reasons. Why do Christians believe that marriage is invalid if it goes against their bible, when marriage has been practiced long before the bible was written, and the majority of the world's population doesn't believe in the teachings of their bible anyway? Oh and please don't ignore my original question, When Hindus get married, do you consider their marriage invalid?

I think Christians think whatever they personally believe about Hindu marriage--which might vary greatly.

Regarding Christian marriage I have one thing to say: Not a portion of most Christian marriage ceremonies I've seen--exists in the Bible I know (and I'm a student 25 years of the Bible--and have seen plenty of "Christian weddings"). The Bible never condones what a proper marriage ceremony for believers in Jesus is.

Amazingly though, plenty of people have this view that their wedding has to be holy or in their family's church or another church, done by formal clergy, and done in a church of their upbringing.

NOT SO! God pretty much leaves it up to a couple to make their ceremony however they want. (It is not the ceremony that is important but the heart).

If they have a legal marriage ceremony then why not ?If an Atheist gets married in a court house they are married too..
I have never heard an Christian say that we invented marriage since it was going on long before Christianity was formed. You are also correct that it was not done for religious reasons, it usually was for business/pacts between tribes.

as a christian, i believe that marriages are a covenant between a couple and God. although, i also believe that civil marriages are just as valid. are people who don't marry in a church not married? of course they are married. now, a person that has a spiritual ceremony in a church and does not get a marriage license married? no. they are not married.

as for Hindus, i have never even thought about their marriage. i guess it would be as long as they have a marriage license.

Yes it's a valid marriage.

I don't know the "Dogma" why ... but I do know that if I fell in love with a divorced Hindu then the RC Church would ask for an "annulment" or tell me I was committing adultery by staying in the relationship ... which would prohibit me from taking the Eucharist ... and I'd be like a Protestant or Baptist them.

No. Christians don't believe that. Marriage is honorable whatever religion a person practices.

I'm very certain that Christians recognize Hindu marriages.

If For some reason, they wanted to join the church, the Church may or may not have certain regulations abut it.

I personally don't think their marriage is invalid. Their marriage is as valid as any other. I'll leave it at that.

BTW if you want to ask about gay marriage you should come out and ask. These trick questions aren't becoming. I think whoever wants to get married should be able to do so, hope that helps.

I could care less what Hindus or Buddhists, Muslims, or anyone else does.

I take care of my own little sandbox. All others are free and welcome to take care of their own business. I'll take care of mine.

Of course the marriage is not invalid, in my opinion.

I am a Christian.

No, we don't. Anyone who is married according to the laws of the land, is recognized as married. We do for the most part, get married by a preacher from our faith, but as long as you are legally married, we are fine with it.
