Our government screwed up plenty by allowing the immigration problem to go out of control. This I believe is mainly the result of pressure by business on our politicians. Business need cheap labor while the politicians need the votes. But no need on crying over spilled milk. I suggest to:
1. Secure the borders, north and south, so that no one sneaks through. Use all the resources available at our disposal to do this even if we have to mine the borders.
NOTE: Not all illegal immigrants are border crossers. A great percentage came from across the oceans on expired visas.
2. Deporting all 12 million is almost impossible to achieve.
3. Deport all with criminal backgrounds.
4. Eliminate citizenship by birth.
5. Institute reasonable means for all to be fined for breaking the law and use the money for health care and education.
6. No priority for relatives other than direct line to immigrate.
7. Issue counterfeit proof ID cards to all US citizens and a different card for legal immigrants.
8. Classify illegals who hold regular jobs from those who are wards of the state.
9. Those who come to this country with work visas do not automatically qualify as an immigrant.
10. Reduce number of new legal immigrants until the existing problem is resolved.
Although some processess sound cruel and insensitive, the government as well as all other feloow citizens have to be firm and resolute if the immigration problem will ever be resolved.

It's out of control. Existing laws should be enforced to bring it back under control, particularly in the form of enforcement against employers.
Legal immigration, OTOH, is desireable and the level of legal immigration should be increased.
The mainstream presidential candidates (the 'front runners') will not do anything to stem the tide of illegal immigration. Thier parties have too much to gain from it, politically.

We need to secure our borders from illegal immigrants. Right now it would be too easy for a terrorist to slip in amogst them. Many lower class american citizens are losing there jobs to illegal immigrants who will work for much less. People who employ illegal immigrants should be thrown in jail. Illegal immigrants themselves should be deported. If you want illegal immigrants deported don't vote for the democrats, period. With Republicans you have to pick and chose. Just remember that while you might agree with them on illegal immigration, you probably won't on other policies such as Iraq.

1. My views on immigration? Excellent. My views on illegal immigration? Negative. Careful with semantics.
2. Secure the border, eliminate the welfare state for illegals, ban in-state tuition from illegal aliens, ban "ID cards" that require no proof of citizenship, increase penalties on illegal employers and landlords threefold. Basically? Attrition and enforcement of existing laws.
3. The democrats? Amnesty. The republicans? Let's just say I don't trust Rudy Giuliani at all...and I'm wary about the rest of them.

Well, I support all the diligent illegals.
Although they are illegals you should not treat them as animals.(May Day in L.A)
This what we should do:
1.Secure our Borders and Ports
2.Build a wall.
3.Hired more Border Patrol Agents
4..Deport all the illegals that had or have any criminal record.
5.Give a immigration reform
-to all the illegals that had been paying Taxes
-have no criminal record
-make them pay a reasonable fine(3,500-5,000)
-make them do community service
6.The goverment should make an act that makes the U.S.A not to give any ammesty or any immigration reform for the next 100years.
7.Fine all the illegals if caught in U,S soil.(1,000)
8.Fine all the companys hiring illegals.(5,000-100,000)and that money should go to the poor schools.

I think we need to strike the right balance. We need to enforce our laws, but we shouldn't be sacrificing other government services by spending excessive amounts of taxpayer money. And we shouldn't deport the illegal immigrants that are making contributions to our economy, only the ones that are either taking Americans' jobs or causing other problems, such as crime. In other words, we need to selectively enforce the law in order to get the most bang for the buck.

I wish the US would enforce the laws on the books before bush took office. But since bush is for uniting the US, Canada and Mexico(puke) into one big happy, illegal immigration will be nonexistent.

We need to secure our borders with fences like prisons keeps guys in, it will definitely keep them out. After we secure our border we need to do major deportation and give large fines and jail times to job owners for giving illegals jobs. Force them to fix their own country, keep a record who enter the country illegally and on the 3 strike they go to jail for a few years. Its not right that they can commit crimes and their punishment is to go home. We need our officals to enforce the laws and not look away when civil rights groups "ACLU" "Americas sue happy Civil Losers for Undocumented workers" flash their money/votes around.

I think that there should be the following statement and corresponding law passed.
1. One year from today, any employer caught employing anyone illegally in this country is subject to a $25,000 fine for the first offense, and $250,000 and 5 years in prison for second.
2. One year from today 100% of govt. programs are cut off from anyone in this country illegally.
3. One year from today, anyone not in this country legally who seeks emergency medical treatment will be treated and then deported.
4. One year from today, anyone caught in this country illegally, will NEVER from that day forward be allowed to legally enter this country for any reason.
5. One year from today, welfare programs will be revamped to promote self improvement (they currently discourage self improvement)
6. One year from today, anyone who is on welfare, able to work, and not actively employed (where jobs are available) will lose any and all entitlement funds.
This would solve two problems at the same time. Illegals would largely self-deport (no reason to stay), and those on welfare would take many of the jobs because they would not be punished for working. (Currently working can actually reduce your income)
carlos...you need to switch Hannity and O'Reilly. O'Reilly folds on his beliefs too easily. Hannity stands firm.
