It is possible that the fruit from the Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil was whatever type of fruit you wanted it to be.
If you were hungry for an apple it was an apple you plucked.
If you wanted a tangerine an orange a grapefruit, a fig, a banana, a plum, an apricot, etc.; then that is what you plucked.
Most people when they are craving something in particular won't be satisfied with just anything. Most people want to taste what they are craving.
Perhaps Eve craved an apple and perhaps Adam a banana.
So perhaps the fruit Eve plucked changed to satisfy both of their cravings.

OK, you have an agrarian culture and god speaks to them. He is going to use terms or they are going to hear terms familiar to them. Their brains can not wrap around scientific concepts as these concepts do not exist. Concepts of any nature do not exist. Only prose or direct, very direct limited language. A tree is symbology for something that grows and provides something usable, sustaining, and nurtures. This tree is probably the oldest living thing these people come acrossed in their lives. Fruit is something that is produced by this life giver and life sustainer. So when you recieve something life sustaining, that your life depends on you would relate that to a life sustaining force such as a tree and its goodness such as fruit. In the day, knowing the differance between good and evil was critical to a peoples surivival. If you made a bad deciesion in such a harsh environment then you would more then likely die. So knowledge was a life giver. The knowledge of evil and how to avoid it was surivival itself. Well good was something that would sustain life. Now if god said (which he did not) This knowledge that I provide to you will ensure the survival of you people that you can spread throughout the world over the next 10 thousand years and populate my world successfully then from there you will build interplanetary vehicles to leave the earth to visit the heavens and that the way you do this is to avoid this list of bad things (tehcnical, exact discreptions of nulcear bombs, weapons, hazardous chemicals, AIDS, Cancer,). If you do this .....Ask yourself, would the ancient hebrews have understood this let alone pass it alone through the spoken word only to their generations generations. Simply put the agrarian language served them fine until we and our successive generations can deligently break the code of the bible and go on to execute gods plan for us. So, there are no apples and bananas here. Just knowledge that god knew these people needed to survive and he gave them the knowledge or the message to search for knowledge regarding critical issues of good things and bad things to do in order that they may survive. So, you say this explanation is confusing, yes it is and just image what an ancient hebrew would go through. Todays society knowing good from evil is also a critical task, but we understand good in an intangable way as well as evil.
Oh, by the way it would have probably been in referance to a fig tree. If you have ever been to the middle east you know those things grow everywhere and the fruit is right there and it is good and plentiful. It can be dried, stored and carried throughout the dessert for months on end. The middle easterners love this tree and it is engrained into their culture. I never saw an apple tree, bannana tree or orange tree the whole time I traveled this extensive arrid region.

It is possible. No where in the bible does it say it was an apple.
In the millennial Kingdom there will be trees that give thirteen different kinds of fruit every thirty days to maturity. So why not.
God Bless!

does that mean that if i stop eating bananas god will let me back into paradise?
It is hard to imagine a paradise where i am not allowed to eat bananas though wouldn't that be some kind of punishment a la tantalus- surrounded by banana trees, but not allowed to eat bananas. No wonder they ate one in the end.

It was NOT the "fruit of knowledge"! It was the "fruit of the knowledge of good and evil". Many other people have that wrong.

Just think about this for a moment: our ancestors lived in trees in warm climates. I believe that figs and bananas were plentiful for them to enjoy during their meal period. And, did you know, that of all the foods consumed by man, bananas are genetically the closest to man's DNA. I guess our ancestors eventually became one with the banana.

The Bible never told what kind of fruit it was. Most people just assume that it was an apple. It could have been any fruit.
