Unless you have a need for Vista and a powerful computer with at least 1GB of RAM I would recommend XP. It has become stable and Vista is new. New software always has some bugs (flaws) in it and I would stay away from it until they have come out with at least Service Pack (fixes) 1. If you are buying a new computer and getting it for home use only, Vista will be OK to use if you like new looks and a little different interface.

Stick with XP, Vista is lacking in drivers and software at the moment and is probably full of security holes knowing Microsoft.
As for me I'm sticking with XP until I absolutely have to move to Vista or until i find a game that i really want that will not work on XP

I have Vista Home Basic, never used XP. My recommendation, go with XP cos Vista doesn't work! I have spent most of today in tears with the stupid thing!

I like vista because it is more organized and spreads the computer's abilities across the interface and programs very nicely. In some cases my computer is faster by bypassing the unnecessary apps. XP is great if you don't have much RAM. Example, 512 or less RAM is great with XP

If you have a newish laptp or pc go with vista. but make sure that the drivers for all your hardware etc are compatable with vista if not go to the manufacturers sites first and check that they have them available if so download them.
A lot of manufacturers have not yet got up to date with drivers suitable for vista so if you cant get them leave well alone and keep XP

XP! Vista is NOT stable yet. It won't run on anything that they say it will run on! You need at least a full Gig of ram and I don't even want to know what kind of processor it really takes. 800 MHz won't do it though.
