So, I'm 25 years old.. I'm a single, white, American female.. This is how it started.. I was on a 2-week business trip in this little town in Germany.. after a business conference I decided to sit in this cafe and eat some German deserts.. as I'm standing in line to pay the cashier I get a phone call from my friend Hannah.. everyone in the cafe notices that I'm American and this really good-lookin' guy is standing right behind me... afterwards I just pay the cashier and sit down.. so the guy who was standing behind comes up to me and very politely says,
hello may I sit down" in a poor english accent.. of course I say "yes" He casually says "hi, my name is David" and we talk.. I tell him what I'm doing in Germany and he talks about himself and what he does for living etc.. very casual talk.. we obviously know at this point that we each like one another.. when I left the cafe he runs after me and asks "can I speak with you again sometime" so I give him my business card..

i told him that I'm heading back to the states in 4 days.. so the next day he calls and asks if we can meet at this bookstore where we can sit down and have a drink [coffee], we want to do this the right way so he brings one of his friend and I bring one of my colleagues (who is a girl) and his friend and my friend just sit a distance from where we're sitting.. we talk some more and at this point its getting serious, we make some references to marriage..of course we plan to know each other more, so nothing happens too soon.. I really like him and he really likes me and we're both not the type that want to be together without marriage.. we want to do it the right way.. there were a few issues with if we were to get married where would we live Germany or the states? he's never been to the states and this is my first time in Germany? is this all happening too soon? it's kinda too good to be true..

You said it yourself. " This sounds too good to be true"
and you know what?....You're absolutely right!!! It is!
You've hit it dead on!!!

He needs a Green Card!!! and you are his American one way ticket to ride on the US of A!

Or he's looking to get some fine piece of "American tail" if you know what I mean.

Anyways...you guys were talking about marriage the first time meet at the cafe? Thats way way too fast for a first time meeting. You dont that on a first date...Thats too heavy and that stuff you you talk about later down the road after you know them better. I can see you both flirting and all. Way too fast still...

I'd say it's lust and not at all love...
Seriously, I'd tell you "let it go" and move on. You're just caught up in moment with with a good-looking German guy.
Its the International dance of the Passports. He likes your American Accent and you like his German Accent.
It happens to everybody at some point or another.
Good luck and best wishes

Though there aren't that many germans that try to hit on every american to get a green card (come on, we're not a third-world country) I'd agree with those who see this as suspicious behaviour. On the other hand, maybe he just falls for the exotic type of girl (being american is exotic in germany).
Don't give up yet, but be cautious.

Well you can get to know him after your married. What you need to worry about is if your willing to give up living in the United States and live in Germany. or the other way.

If you can figure such a hard decision and know you can do it, then I would say you can also work out a marriage.

Good luck

Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm really not trying to be mean here but are you desperate? Marriage is soooo serious if he really loves you he will wait for you guys to get to know each other better. Don't rush into marriage without first knowing this guy or at least meeting his family, divorce is such a painful and expensive process.

it sounds like a movie that Jude Law would love to be in.all joking aside,my brother was station in Germany for 2 years he now has a German wife,so my advice is to take it slow, the whole talking about marriage seems like a major advance.but who can say Germans are a lot more forward than we Americans,so it could just be that he really likes you or worst case is he wants to bed you before you leave.either was be very careful their ways are very different than ours.

really good looking guy=lust=love and then boredom after a couple years.you covet a mans looks and body style as much as we men do women which usually turns us to someone else because we get tired of the same mate everyday yr after yr. keep it new. i think i had 1 true love in my life and blew it. the longest was 19yrs and that was to give my sons a mother-father family relationship......after that we divorced.good luck hun with your relatioships. be sure before you make that lifelong commitment

He just sees you as a ticket to America.
He didn't talk to you before he noticed you were American.
