Wait for Macy's to have a huge sale or find someone who can get you into their "Friends and Family" Sale usually held twice a year. http://www1.macys.com/catalog/index.ognc?CategoryID=25241&PageID=25241*1*24*-1*-1&kw=Engagement%20Rings&LinkType=EverGreen

Otherwise I'd personally go to Costco, which is probably the best bang for your buck. There is no huge markup like jewelers and Costco's diamond standards are high. If your fiance doesn't like the diamond settings, buy a standard tiffany setting ring and you can have it remounted to your liking later on. The best thing about Costco is that it has a satisfaction guarentee return policy, so if your fiance totally hates it you can return it w/o a problem. http://www.costco.com/Common/Category.aspx?ec=BC-EC2189-Cat108&pos=1&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=55926&eCat=BC|108|55926&lang=en-US

Never do pawn shops because you're not a diamond specialist and don't know if the diamond is worth what you're paying for or even if it is a real diamond. And try to avoid buying retail just for the main reason of high mark-ups.

First by learning the 4 C's. There are plenty of tutorials online.

Check out bluenile.com, you can use their online search engine to see how much diamonds of different quality costs. It is considered a reputable online site, they have been reviewed by forbes.

Online the prices are better than local jewelers, but I would only trust a few places. Checkout diamondhelpers.com also, they review jewelers.

Without a doubt the best deals can be found at your local pawn shop! I am not being facetious. If you can get past the social taboo on giving something used, the best rings can be found there at a fraction of any jewelry store bargains, really!

classified ads from a guy that got it back. however i would never buy without paying a deposit and taking it to a jeweler to be verified as authentic.

If the girl does not mind--many would but like i said IF she doesn't--you could substitute another stone. cubic, diamondique--or nice stones like mossanite, white sapphire, or like in old times ruby, sapphire, pearl. There is no rule that it has to be a diamond.

I think buying a used one on Ebay is your best bet. Make sure that the seller has very good feedback. There are beautiful rings that go at excellent prices. Check them out.

If you want something beautiful and affordable - GO TO JC PENNEYS!

That is where my fiance got my set (it is a $1500 set, got it for $350 - it's the truth - we had it appraised!)

They have killer deals, two other brides I know got theirs here too and are THRILLED.
