When one tells me they are spiritual rather than religious then I take it that;' they will not commit themselves to their faith'.
Anyone can be spiritual. Satanist's, Buddhist's, Scientologist's, and Wiccans! Pick one. Heck you can even pick one out of any of the denominations in the Christian churches. You can find them in the Anglican church, the Catholic church, the many series of Baptist churches, and the non denominational churches!
Being spiritual usually means (there are exceptions, but rare) that the self proclaimed spiritualist is open to any demon that can latch on to the individual with as many complimentary lies as the person is comfortable with.
A religious person is one of strong faith. Right or wrong, they have a faith that is nonplussed by the world, and immovable by persuasive tongues. They believe in the fundamentals of their shared faith and only the power of God can shake them out of it. All of them are quite spiritual; but their religious faith in God, the Christ, and the Holy Ghost comes before their own spirit.
That's it in a nutshell.

The two terms kind-of go hand in hand, but are occasionally seperated. Most religions have spirituality in some form. A religion is simply a set of beliefs and practices having to do with a higher power or form of the divine in some way. Spirituality is simply practices and beliefs that bring one close or into communication with their chosen form of the divine. Thus, most religions are spiritual in some way. Religion is the belief, and spirituality is the practices that being us closer to the divine. In essence, that connection with the divine is spirituality, but spirituality can be part of or seperate from a specific religion.

Spiritual refers to a deeper connection with God, not necessariy bounded by text or rituals or traditions, but by a feeling of love between oneself and God. Religious refers to following specific guidelines stated by one's religion or religious leader. Sometimes, when someone says that he or she is more spiritual than religious, the person means that the connection felt with God is not particularly belonging to one specific religion.

In most cases they mean that they feel "spiritual" and they are "free thinkers" who believe that they have some sort of communion with the "spirit world". When that's the case what it really means is that they are either deceived by seducing spirits or phonies who are trying to impress people and who like to feel special about themselves.

In some cases a person can be a Christian and say that they are "spiritual" and not "religious" meaning (hopefully) that they are not legalistic or ritualistic in their relationship with God through Jesus by the Holy Spirit.

Spiritual means that one deals directly with his god. Religious means one belongs to an physical organization such as a church run by people who claim they are the messenger of god.

I think some see "spiritual" as a personal relationship with God without going to church or being in any "organized" religions. Religion to people who deem themselves "spiritual" is for those who go to church and follow an organized religion.

I think it's all a load of bull pretty much. And sometimes I wonder if it's a cop out for the spiritual people too lazy to go to church.

Religion asks you to believe in and follow the path dictated by others. Spirituality means that you find your own truth by looking within...and that within is the only place to find really find God! The kingdom of God is within, and we were never meant to follow someone else's truth, we are only meant to follow our own truth! All paths lead to God, and the one that is truly right for you, is right for you, and the one right for me, is right for me! *sm*

It means people don't need an intermediary to talk to God. They know their own truth, they know Who They Are. They understand that their body is their church, and there is where they heal their hurt. They can go inwardly to talk to God, they use their spirit as a means to connect with God. Our soul is created in the image and likeness of God and is always connected. And they believe in themselves. They don't need to follow somone else's truth. They know their own truth.
