1999 Dodge Intrepid, Any Good?

Question

I have found a 1999 dodge intrepid for sale, and i was wanting to know if it was worth buying, can i get some oppinions please!

I have found a 1999 dodge intrepid for sale with a 3.3 engine. They are asking $2,000 for it, it is wrecked in the rear querter panel (passenger side) but they put putty in it to fill it and it is painted back to the white, ball-joint is REAL LOSE, not sure if the oil pump or oil pan is messed up, somethin with the fuel tank is messed up, do you think this is worth buying, and if so how much would it take to usually fix them things?

~Gee, since I've test driven it, had my mechanic look it over and saw the condition the body was in and ran a history on it and looked it up in consumer reports and NADA, the answer is obvious too me. I'm not going to make an offer on it but the way, but the seller is asking way too much for it.

Check Kelly Bluebook (available online) to see if it is properly priced.

Many of the 2.7L's did have problems, sludge mostly, but many didn't get it. You can look down the oil fill cap and see if it looks clean or sludged. If sludged, walk away.

They are also known for oil leaks, mostly rear main, oil pan and oil pressure senders. Look under the engine and see if it appears dry or wet with oil.

If a 3.2 or 3.5 you will have less to worry about. Still, a peek at available service records helps. 3.2s and 3.5s are timing belt, 2.7s are timing chain. Both have water pumps driven either by the belt or chain

As with any used vehicle, it is worth your while to have it inspected prior to purchase. If the seller doesn't want it inspected, walk away.

most likely... however, dodge didnt put the 3.3 in the '98 and newer intrepids. pop the hood to be sure it is what you're getting, like everyone else says, dont buy a 2.7. after '98 it was the 2.7, 3.2, and 3.5, all were over head cam and the 2.7 was DOHC pre '98 was 3.3 and 3.5, these were pushrod v-6's.

it probably will be a real good car as long as your not getting the 2.7 engine,if it has that one in it run from it,their not worth fooling with ,too many problems with them,the 3.3 or the 3.5 are good engines,but not the 2.7.overall cars that don't have the 2.7 are good cars,good luck with it.

As long as it does not have a 2.7 liter engine. If you look online you will see that they are known for engine problems. I know from experience.

the rack and pinion were a pain to get out but this was the style it first came out and it had a traction problem on slippery roads
