Do they use a special liquid or pill?

Just listerine, but it doesn't hurt. The needle just kind of slips through the muscle if you are relaxed and have a good piercer. My toungue was my only piercing that didn't hurt at all. You can feel the needle, but not in a painful way. just like touching your arm.

Keep a cup of ice cube chips with you though for the healing process. It helps make your tongue feel better.

um, no they dont do anything. they use a clamp to pull your tongue out and hold it still and then they use some gauze to dry off your tongue. Then they take the tongue ring on some thing and stick it in and up from the bottom up then screwing the top ball on. I had my tongue pierced two times, and it wasnt a fun experience. It really doesnt hurt to bad and im a baby, all the nerves are on the edges of your tongue thats why it hurts when you accidentally bite it. My tongue swelled up pretty good the first time and I sucked on a lot of ice. I took it out after a year or so cuz it was sore and it ended up closing up on me right away. I went to have it done again and when she was putting the top ball in place the whole bar slipped out of the bottom and they said I had to wait like a month before I could come back and have it redone. i didnt bother. it did get quite annoying in there and it would get sore sometimes and make your tongue slightly swell which would squeeze it between the two balls and make it worse. I always played with it by my teeth, which im sure wasnt good for them either. But no numbing.

I don't know about the tongue ring, honey, but I know that when I have a sore on my tongue or my cheeks, it's like having a cut on your finger. These areas of the body have lots & lots of nerves so they can do their job. You need to be able to feel & taste the food you eat, just like you need to be able to find a lost contact on a gray carpet.

They may be able to give you something to numb it while they install it, but what about later, when it wears off? You're going to have at least a couple of days of healing time. What are you going to do then?

Tell me you asked mom about this...

Sorry if I seem too motherly, but that's me.

Some places do numb it, however its not the best thing to do. Its actually a very painless process. As for the clamps, they too have bene in the autoclave so are nothing to worry about. If you have any questions that pop up while your there, your piercer will tell you anything that you need to know.

No they don't. And if they do - run away.

All you should ever come into contact with when piercing your tongue is the needle (single-use and sterilized) and the barbell.

Some places use clamps, but you should ask your piercer to use his hands, as its more sanitary.

Have fun !

Why bother? People who get tongue rings are already numb - between the ears!
