My doc said to use deodorant not antiperspirant. Its the antiperspirant that they say causes cancer. Antiperspirant blocks the sweat glands where as deodorant just covers up the stink.

A good question. My mother has just finished treatment for breast cancer, when she was diagnosed I became a bit paranoid about what causes the cancer and if I would get it. I did a LOT of research into the causes of cancer. While there is no conclusive evidence that deodorant causes cancer, the aluminumum in the deodorant has been linked to cancer. If you are at all concerned, there are lots of really nice deodorants that are aluminumum free.

Many factors cause breast cancer but a simple answer is deodorant is to help get rid of smell. Antiperspirants on the other hand inhibit the body's ability to perspire which causes the body to retain the toxins it is trying to expel. Where else can the toxins go but to easily accessible fatty breast tissue which could certainly present the opportunity for cancer to develop. Chemicals in deodorants can and will react differently with everyone and honestly I wish there were a very safe effective option that really worked. I think I have tried all the healthfood store brands, mail order brands and then some...I guess I am just a stinker (lol)
Simply said I think deodorants are safer than antiperspirants but they are both chemicals that are foreign to the body and absorbed thru the skin and carry potential risks.

The Articles in the press and on the Internet have warned that underarm antiperspirants or deodorants cause breast cancer
The reports have suggested that these products contain harmful substances, which can be absorbed through the skin or enter the body through nicks caused by shaving. Some scientists have also proposed that certain ingredients in underarm antiperspirants or deodorants may be related to breast cancer because they are applied frequently to an area next to the breast.
However, researchers at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) are not aware of any conclusive evidence linking the use of underarm antiperspirants or deodorants and the subsequent development of breast cancer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulates food, cosmetics, medicines, and medical devices, also does not have any evidence or research data that ingredients in underarm antiperspirants or deodorants cause cancer.

No-one knows for sure what causes breast cancer. It would seem different things in different people.
Aluminium is sometimes found in breast cancer tumours and lymph glands taken from the armpits of breast cancer patients.
Aluminium is also found in many anti-perspirants.
There is no conclusive evidence that using an aluminium based anti-perspirant will give you a higher risk of developing breast cancer.

NO, absolutely not. I checked this out several years ago on the various hoax-buster sites. To see for yourself, put "deodorant" "breast cancer" and "hoax" in your favorite search engine.

I don't know if it does or not but me and my husband don't use regular deodorant any more. We use Crystle Stick which is a mineral salt deodorant with no aluminum. Check it out: http://www.thecrystal.com/ It works great. You don't smell at all using this stuff!

I have not seen any evidence on this particular claim. But to be sure, I would send you to the www.cancer.org site where you can do the research yourself. They have great resources online and will get a short answer for you.

yes, evidence suggests aluminum chlorohydrate penetrates the lymph nodes in the armpit and can cause cancer.
