We have in insane amount of geese on campus (like seriously over 100)...my friend (a girl) is afraid of them and refuse to walk near them. I think they are cute and give them food and stuff, but she is terrified of them. I try to explain that they cant really hurt her, but she wont list. How much harm can a goose actually do to an adult female

It depends upon whether they are the biting geese or flogging geese. With biting, you can get some odd-shaped bruises and once and a while a papercut type wound. When they flog, it can do some damage, but it's mostly just bad bruising on the shins. nothing worse than a game of soccer can give you. Nothing permanent or anything that will REALLY hurt. If they have spurs, you might get a few pokes but it's nothing more than what a thorn bush can give you.

edit: for the biting, if one starts to bite her, tell her to put her hand RIGHT in front of the goose's face and stretch the hand as tight as possible. The goose can't grab onto anything and if it grabs a finger, it fits perfectly into the mouth so no damage is done (the tongue just feels funny)
If they try to flog her, tell her to reach down and put her hands in the armpits and push a little. It forces their wings back to the sides and really startles them so they run away.

Well, if the geese ever hissed or squacked at her, maybe thats why she might be scared. If she just generally doesnt like birds, its her brain and not your fault. How much harm can a goose do to an adult female: geese can sometimes be jealous if you hang around her more then the geese. Maybe thats not whats generaly happening but geese tend to be jealous of others. I remember I was sharing a fry (OMG A FRY!) with my friend (No, not my boyfriend but a friend thats a boy) because his fries were salty and... ew... so a goose honked at him and showed his wings like he was going to attack him. All he did was honk back and show his hands like the goose and the goose backed off. Try telling her to do that.

Geese have very raspy bills. The inside of their bill is lined with tiny little barbs. They will draw blood if they get a hold of you. Plus, when they do bite, they start flapping those gigantic wings, and the amount of force they can get on that little patch of skin is very painful. The feathers on their wings are not soft, but very rigid, and can scratch as they beat you with them. If you piss one off, you are just asking for a horrible little wound, and probably one great infection.

I once watched my brother get nailed by a mama goose who was sitting on eggs. She grabbed him on the stomach and started beating him with her wings and rolling over like a crocodile. He was bleeding like crazy and had a nasty bruise about the size of a salad plate.

I feel for your friend, geese are mean suckers.

They bite, which can smart, but they don't have teeth so....... not much damage there. I have heard that their wings are quite powerful, but no horror stories about that. Perhaps your friend has a mild phobia of some kind. (some people it's spiders or bats, or mice.) Maybe tell her to carry a couple of pieces of bread with her and when they get a little to close for comfort throw the bread as far as she can......:)

They can attack you and bite and draw blood. Even a chicken can peck you and draw blood. Swans are even worse. I had swan bite my shoe and tear a nice hole in it. Lucky my toe was out of the way.

i think geese can harm adults only if they are feeling that you might attack them.
