Barbell. One, it's less likely to get in the way of daily activities (it will be sore for the first few weeks if you bump into things). Two, it's easier to find barbells when you want to change it. Three, it's got more fashion possibilities.
If you are active at all (i.e. cheerleader, basketball, etc.) do NOT get the ring. It will hurt and possibly rip when you participate.

It really all depends on your personality and what you like. I think the barbell type ones are nice cause they don't tend to get caught in your clothing as much as rings (unless of course it is one of the chandelier/hanging type). Personally, I like the barbell ones and go for the chandelier type when I wear swimsuits and stuff since they are more flashy.

personally, i would recommend getting a barbell. the ring will most likely irritate your piercing. barbells do not move around nearly as much. plus, i find it to be more sexy.
