My father knows a person who gave me his contact info at a big financial company. Question is do I sent him a generic cover letter saying thank you and telling him that he gave my father his name etc... Or do I send a cover letter but without specifying a position. I just list my skills and abilities and hope he finds a match. thank you

Definitely send a cover letter along with a resume. Mention how you heard of him and his company in the letter (via your father). It never hurts to use who you know to open doors to opportunities you wish to pursue. Good luck!

just fill out an app and mention your dads name. don't send an unsolicited cover letter.

don't be generic, the real world has a lot to do with "who you know" if someone disagrees...they probably don't have a career
