I was told by my mum that there are worms in pork, that appear around 3 days after the pig has been hung after slaughter.
I have been on the internet and seen a few videos that show when you pour coca cola on a piece of raw pork, tiny white worms wriggle out of the surface!!
I am not sure if it is trickery or not.
The person who told my mum was a retired butcher.
I must say, since hearing this around 6 months ago, i have'nt eaten any pork product.
God, i miss a bacon buttie and sausage rolls!!
please, can any butchers set me straight?

even if you cook the pork you are still eating cooked worms??!!

In the USA, it's all a myth.
The way hogs are fed and slaugthered the worms (trichinosis) has been eliminated from farm raised pork.
Even if there are worms (which I find highly unlikely) cooking will kill the worms.

Well, I'm a chef and yes I have seen that first hand. Not just pork though, I've seen it in fish and turkey too! That made you feel better didn't it!
My advice to you would be to buy the best quality meat money can buy, prep and clean it well, and don't worry TOO much. I mean, you're eating a pig so why not a worm!?

I can only speak for the USA. The FDA food and drug administration would not allow that. Besides at 6 to 7 dollars or more for a pound of bacon I think they should and would be very careful with pork products.

NOT TRUE.
This goes back to the days when people fed garbage to their pigs. Today, they are fed grains, so NO, there are no worms in pork.
Don't believe everything you hear!

Oh don't, after 20 years of being a veggie and having only started eating pork Eight months ago, I really don't want to hear that!!! I think I'll just put the veggie stuffed peppers in the oven!

What I have head is that you did have to worry about that several decades ago, and that's why you always had to make sure you fully cooked pork, but in recent years, that's changes and you don't have to worry about worms or parasites any longer.
But I agree, that is gross...

Yes. In the past a worm Trichinella spiralis (trichina) was often found in pork. Today this is much less the case. About one hundred cases are found in the United States each year. Most cases are from pork or pork products. However wild game has also been implicated in infection. The majority of cases were from individuals that consumed raw meat. The next worst numbers were from undercooked meat. The larve is killed at temperatures of 160F and above.
No. Because it is very rare occurance in the regulated meat we eat today. When was the last time you heard of someone with trichina.
Cook your pork (very very rare occurance in bovine (cow-steer) as the are veggie eaters.) to and pork products and you will not need to worry.
