Unfortuntatly with human nature being the way it is, sometimes it takes force to change things. While many people try to avoid war at all costs, sometimes it becomes necessary inorder to remove the problem. Many people forget that the privleges you get as a US citizen where won by a war. We wrote the Decleration of Indepenence declaring our separation from the United Kingdom. As we all know the Crown of the UK didn't take it to well at the time and came to conquer us to keep up under their rule.
So your freedom to ask this question, freedom of press, freedom of speech all came from war. Remember War does not always have to do with two militaries fighting each other. The cold war between the USA and the USSR was fought economically and politically and cause the collapes of the USSR.
I am sure many people felt that WWII was necessary, ask anyone who is Jewish, Gypsy or one of the many other groups of people Hitler hated. I bet they are glad the USA, the UK, and the USSR fought Nazi Germeny. To bad we didn't know what was going on in the camps earlier though.
While many times a diplomatic solution can be reached, there are times when the problem is so extreme that the only way to solve it is by removing it. Hitler would have never given up his power and attempt to conquer the world, Saddam Hussien would have never left Kuwait in the first Gulf war even after a build up of collition troops.

War doesnt solve problems. It creates more of a diffferent variety. War is only a last option when all diplomatic means fails. In the case of Iraq, there were years of negotiations, broken treaties, UN resolutions, and warnings before a single shot was fired. By removing Saddam we eliminated the problem of having a unstable, mass murdering, homicidal maniac from terrorizing the middle east and threatening both us and his neighbors. Unfortunately, now we have to deal with the problems that his removal caused in terms of political power in the region. The insurgents that are causing all of the problems are nothing more than proxies for other countries surrounding Iraq that would like to have a puppet leadership under their control running the country. So now we have to deal with the power vaccum we created. My brother was recently killed in Afganistan, he told us of all the good that we were accomplishing over there, sent pictures of the kids playing with the soccer balls they gave them, took pictures of the schools he helped build. The good things we are doing over there dont show up in the news. Good news doesnt sell newspapers or get ratings. The media is only interested on death, destruction, and mayhem because thats what sells. Is war a good solution to any problem -Never, but sometimes it is the only solution open to us. The question I have for you is , if you dont believe that war was necessary, what option would you propose that hadnt already been exhausted? Ignore the situation and hope it goes away? Ignoring or capitulating to bullies or terrorists only results in more bullying and terrorism. Sometimes you have to draw a line and say no further.

that is not a true stateent at all, NO one believe wars solve any problem, in fact, they know it creats far more problems, but it changes the problems, makes them more managable hopefully, that the gamble yu take, and know one can ever guess the outcome. Abraham Lincoln hatted the Idea of the war, he held the UNion back, he want to settle it by discussions and reasoning, but he had to realize that there sometimes comes a point where the other or both sides refuse to yield, that they keep pushing and pushing, and war, with all it's cruuelty and victims does most of the time bring changes, and yes new problems, but the nations leaders seem to start actually doing some progressive talking instead of putting there fingers and there ears and threating each other like kids on the block. Frankin Roosevelt tried to keep thre US out of war, but enough was enough, some times you can't avoid the problems and you have to fight back. Sorry thats just a part of man's life here on earth since Cain Killed Able out of a percieved jealosy. we have never learned, and even is say the US does all it can to avoid future wars, be sure some country will push and push, bomb, threaten, harrass, sabotage, steal, torture, steal, or do what ever just because they want what we have, and they will not reason, and only say what you want them to say, and then turn and do the opposite, believing you would not retaliate. that is why wars happen.

Some times war IS necessary...
Look at the taking back Europe from an aggressor bent on world domination... that was necessary.
I think usually there are good intentions in going to war to bring force against armies in countries who support opposite views, and usually repression of civil rights.
That alone doesn't make it right.
I personally think that countries should be prevented from waging war (including the United States) with out approval from a world governing body.
If the second Iraqi invasion had been supported by as many nations as the first, we wouldn't find ourselves in the mess we have there today. The US is wrong to impose its will in other countries. Democracy is our creed but each nation should be sovereign to decide what they want.
g-day!

The truth is, war solves large-scale POLITICAL problems in terms of DOCUMENTS and MONEY. It DOES NOT solve ideological problems and social issues. Were there still Nazi's after the surrender of the Nazi party in Germany in WWII?? You bet. There still are Nazi organizations today. The thing is, if all humans were more advanced in intellect and social dealings, etc., maybe we could solve large-scale political issues in ways other than killing, but the fact remains that it is our tried-and-true way for now.
That being said, perhaps you can see why a "war-on-drugs" or "war-on-terrorism" cannot realistically or practically work, in the sense of being an actual WAR. This is because you can never rid the entire world (individuals, small-scale organizations, etc) of things like drugs and terrorism because it can't be forfeited in terms of money and political documentation. It can be used, however, for propaganda and political gain, as so many things can be.

The unfortunate fact of war is that many perish or suffer for the mistakes and desires of a few, leaders argue, the masses fight and die, kinda twisted huh, however, good bye and good riddance to hitler, saddam, king george, taliban, just to name a few, sometimes it's neccesary, period, infact, many wars have prevented even more wars,as goofy as that sounds it's true, history is the final judge of it all,you don't always know for sure at the time unfortunately

People have problems. War kills people. Dead people no longer have problems.
Less simplistically, some problems are the result of conflict or disagreement or irreconcilably opposed interests among political entities. When no other recourse can resolve such problems, war is the final option.

Are you suggesting that wars never solve problems? Do you live in the US? If so, just how do you think we solved the problem of becoming a nation free from the rule of King George?

Wars have been happening to resolve issues since the dawn of man. Why stop now?
