Have any of you seen the movie..... i think "Kill Point" where a bunch of ex-military guys go out to rob a bank......
Well in that movie, the robber gave a speech about the war....
It included very nice thoughts, that i agreed with, and some statements that i liked. These included:
-he asked why the government didn't issue body armor to everyone in the army, because the government deemed it "not necessary"
-He made a statement that..... He wanted every person who voted for us to go to war with Iraq to GO TO WAR with iraq.
he mentioned alot of things that i dont remember.... but i believe that the people in the army should decide whats necessary, and what should be done, not the people sitting at home for moral support (no offense to x-army or army families)
or the government, when half of them have never been to Iraq.

By the way, I'm all for the war in Iraq.... And WOULD vote for it to happen, granted its a really impossible idea, it just might make you take a second thought before you just say, "LETS KILL THEM IRAQIS" and sit at your house hearing news of more car bombs going off and more soldiers dieing.
Im asking for beliefs.

I am currently in Iraq doing convoy security. I have been here 8 1/2 months and been blown up three times. So far just a couple of concussions, but this has caused me to examine this war in depth. We have made a mess here and are still making a mess. Innocent civilians are dying daily because we started this war with little planning past the first thirty days. Many Iraqis have no home, water or food. When a man has a choice to earn money by planting bombs and feeding his children or letting them starve what should he do. I do not believe we should leave now since we have pretty much destroyed a lot of this country. I hear people say that the good things like building schools doesn't get put on the news. The news is we still have not built enough schools to get back to the prewar levels. The electricity, water system, health system, just about everything is still below prewar levels despite billions of dollars and 4 years, and how many lives. I have lost two friends in the last two months and can't get anyone to tell me a good reason why. And no-one but our family members are paying a price for this war. Bumper stickers and a care package doesn't do a thing for us. Only scrutiny of the way the war is conducted is going to give us a chance to succeed. I re-entered the service because i thought i could some good. I believe i have, or at least hope so for some of the younger soldiers but in reality the only people who can do some good are the politicians and neither party seem to want to do anything but say they have the best ideas. We can't even get spotlights here for our vehicles so we can see the IEDs before we run over them. I have written to two senators and one congressman about this and have not gotten one reply. I can buy the lights off the shelf in the U.S. but after 8 1/2 months the military can 't get them over to us. All we get is rhetoric. But that is the way of the military and we will continue to do our job proudly but with little understanding as to why.

I don't have many thoughts on your description. However, I have a few about your question. Up until the past year or so, I was fully for the war. I believed that our soldiers were there to help spread democracy in Iraq. While in my latest US History class, my prof reiterated that a parallel can be drawn from the Vietnamese War and the Iraqui War. L. Johnson deceived the country, telling us that we were ahead, when in reality we were doing much poorly. I do not agree with the war anymore. Nonetheless, I still support our troops because it is nationalistic.

Well unfortunately throughout history the old men always created war, and the young men have to go fight it. You'll never get rid of that unless you get of war completely (which is extremely unlikely).

My belief is that anybody who forms an opinion based on what they see at the movies needs some real help with the cognitive thought process.

Actually, I did see that show. I think the statements the robber made are somewhat outdated. The beginning of the war saw a lot of chemical and biological equipment for the troops. As the war progressed, it was determined that the IUDs and other explosive devices turned out to be a much greater threat. There's absolutely no question that the United States underestimated the blood lust and hatred between the different religious sects.
Have you seen recent pictures of our troops? Any more body armor and the troops will be pretty much immobile.
I would like to see more armor plating for the vehicles and more equipment designed to safely detonate road side bombs BEFORE our troops pass over or by them.
His rant basically sounded like something one might expect to hear on Air America - an isolated, fictional account of one soldier's experiences.

My brother Randy was killed in afganistan on July 9. He firmly believed in what he was doing. So much so that he took one last rotation to the middle east before he retired. It was not mandatory on his part, he could have opted out. But Randy believed in what he was doing. We have some really great pics of him playing soccer with the kids he gave balls to and others of him standing in front of the school he helped build. The locals in both Afganistan and Iraq support our troops presence. The people we are fighting are criminals and instigators sent in from other countries. Nationally, only 10% of the men and women in our nation will ever serve in the armed forces. In my family, the military is a tradition. I and two of my brothers served, our father served, our grandfather served. Nobody wants a war less than the soldiers who have had or will have to fight in them. We know all too well the price of freedom. Not a single soldier in the US military is a conscript, they are all volunteers, they accepted their position and responsibilities of their own accord. The military has always been underequipped, has always fought conflicts with the tools and materials that were designed at the end of the last conflict. So it is no suprise to any soldier that there is life saving technology out there that he doesnt have. Congress wont fund its purchase so he has to buy it himself if he chooses. Thats the way its always been. Conflicts should be fought by the diplomats who failed to find a peacful solution. I think it would have been perfect if we took all of the white house staff and all of Saddams staff and locked them in an arena with a pile of sidearms and declare the persons walking out the victors. Unfortunately, thats not how it works. There is no honor among politicians, only changing currents of power. Sometimes it is necessary to use force to correct a misuse of that power. It is not desirable, but on occasion necessary. Unfortunately for Randy and others who have given their lives, this occasion was necessary.

My belief is that people want to complain. It doesn't matter what it's about, as long as they have something to complain about.
Complaining about a war is a serious thing and people take it to lightly. Our country is at war and two thirds of it's spoiled rotten citizens, don't support it. They park their cars in their garages and sit down with a bag of doritos and surf the internet on their computers and complain about our government. That makes sense, not!
People believe everything they read, hear or see. This is especially true if the material has a negative context. I went to college for four years and graduated. One thing I noticed in college was how many professors lacked so much common sense. Everything they know, they learned in a book. I'm sorry, books are great, but two people can read the same book, and the book won't mean the same thing to these two people. This is where common sense comes into play. It is just a book. The book means whatever you want or believe it to. Someone might try to convince you otherwise, but it is your world you live in and everyone else has their world.
Books are good for stories and conversation. Books don't teach us how to run a country or fight a war. We need to be a little more humble and honorable. We need to be more respectfull of our leaders. They are trying to do what is best for this country. All we seem to do is complain. Way to go American people, you are so smart, I wish you could all line up so I could pat your heads and tell you how incredibly intelligent you all are!
I honestly believe that if the democrats really wanted to bring all our troops back from Iraq, that they would be trying harder than they are. All they really do is stand around and put down republicans. I believe that democrats don't want to end this war. They actually know that we can't end this war right now. If they admitted this, then people would have to find something else to complain about. That might be bad news for the democrats. They really have a lot of fire power with this war issue they have created. This sickens me. I think that people apposing this war are empowering our enemies and our critics. They are making Americans look like fools. Like people who can't make a decision and just beat their heads against the wall in unison. It would be so easy to stand back and find creative ways of criticizing people and their ideas. That would be easy, but I learned at a young age that the easy way, is almost always the wrong way. Let's work together and support our country and let's not focus our efforts on trying to prove eachother wrong, but instead, let's focus on what is already right. We live in a free country and we should not be willing to risk losing it.
