I'll play devil's advocate here and say yes-- go ahead with the shorts. I've seen plenty of innappropriately dressed people at Broadway shows. Yes, people will be more dressed-up than you, but you probably won't get hassled. Especially if it is a matinee. The reality is-- it's NY-- people do whatever the hell they want.

Sure... if you want to look like an ignorant country tourist that might get turned away. Seriously, even if you wore shorts and flipflops on the street people would peg you as a tourist a mile away, we just don't wear that type of stuff. It is too impractical and the flipflops aren't meant to be walking around so much in and they let your feet get dirty, its nasty tacky and an invitation to get yor feet crushed if you wear them in Times Square/Theater district. Save that attire for the beach and besides, you will get cold in the theater anyway.

Hi..
The afternoon matinees are more casual..So dress casual, just No flip flops and shorts..
The evening shows are definitely dressy..
Try to dress accordingly!
But have a great time!

You probably won't be turned away, but you'll look very under dressed! Why not dress up the shorts with a sexy top and high heels? That'll do for a show!

Have fun! (I'm going tonight - wearing black pants, hi-heeled sandals and a black & white baby doll top that shows adequate cleavage!)

You would look like a complete dork.

Khakis and a collared shirt at the very least. Would prefer dress pants and a tie, but the khakis will do if you have to be casual.

No..............

I am 95% sure most Broadway productions will not even let you in. Certain attire is required when attending a show of that caliber....

No, it's far too casual. You should at least wear a nice dress and heels.
