I wanted to know how old they are supposed to live up to, because my budgie is 9 years old and wanted to know if that's old, and if there's anything to make her live longer.

I think normal age is between 12 and 15, but I've had some live to 25 and beyond. Just like people, good nutrition, exercise and LOTS of playing will keep her going for a long time. I also gave mine mineral and vitamin supplements, and each one had at least two hours outside of the cage each day and one hour of my undivided attention. I let my birds pretty much run their own lives. If they like to watch TV, I'd get them those kid-proof remotes and they learn how to use them, if they like disney music, I let them listen to it all they want, etc.
I also fed them premium food. I mix half pellets and half seeds (every bird needs treats!). Just taking good care of her will keep her going for a long time!

The life span for a parakeet owned by a 9 yearold human with pet dachshunds is 3 months, learned that as a kid and stopped getting birds as pets. I now have custody of my nieces two 6 yr old birds, got them two years ago. I was afraid they'd die and my niece would hate me but the breeder we got them from says they can live to be 18.
My birds have never gone into a full molt, are very talkative, the female chats in bird talk and the male in some human. They are like any other animal and thrive on interaction. There is lots of good advice here, just make sure the bird is not bored or lonely too much, that is stressfull. My birds like Spanish TV and classical music the best. And I put friends on speaker phone for them, they love visiting people.

They usually live 15 to 20 years. Proper diet keeping the everything clean, also include a daily offering of fruits and vegetables. Who likes to eat the same thing all the time anyway? Don't be surprise if your budgie doesn't eat the fruits or vegetables at first. It make take months, but keep trying. Thoroughly clean any fruits and vegetables you feed to your bird. You can offer your budgies apples, grapes, guava, mango, orange, pomegranate, watermelon, blanched or grated carrots and green leafy vegetables such as lettuce and spinach.
It's important for budgies to have calcium in their diet by placing a piece of cuttlebone (the bone of the cuttlefish) in their cages.

Ok, so from the others that have posted on this, here is the actual life expectancy for a very well taken care of cockatiel that is not prone to health problems. About 25 years. My ma has a male cockatiel named Tweety that is currenly 22 years old. Tweety's mate is named Gussie and she is approximately 18 years old. Not kidding. Both are still in excellent health, but are not a breeding pair anymore.
If you want a bird that you would probably leave in a will to someone, try getting an African Grey... their life span is about 90 years. Yep, 90. My ma also has one of those that is about 10 years old.
To make your bird live longer, just make sure that you feed it a healthy diet (not all seeds), let it get plenty of exercise and give it plenty of attention.
I had a budgerigar that lived to be about 10 years old. He did not die of natural causes, either (sad). I think that their life span is about 15 to 20 years if taken care of very well.

You've done wonderful!!! Most people thing a budgie has a life expectancy of about 2 years because they don't have a proper diet, or exercise, or light....the earliest I've had a budgie die on me was 9 years. Your little one is pretty old...But I bet extremely happy.

Continue what you are doing.
Might add washed fresh vegetables to the diet if you aren't now. Chop them small and put in the food dish.

Dark green leafy veggies ( broccoli,peppers,kale,bok choy,celery, carrots,etc.)

Also steamed and cooled and mashed sweet potato weekly and same with a (15 minute boiled ) egg, chop small and leave the shell on it, once a week.

Alaways use fresh foods and never bought vitamins.
