During the second world war, those that were drafted and /or enlisted, 100% went to help the country, some had a choice, some didn't.
When the United States is truly at war, for good reason, they usually have no problem finding good, qualified men to fight such war, from those that wish to protect our country, but now in this situation we're in now, very few would, if given the choice, get involved , and would shy away from military service.
As far as finding another job, many men and women joined the military to get a decent education and earn some money in the meantime, and those are the bunch that are sacrificing their lives now in this illegal, uncalled for war in Iraq, plus the many reservist members that joined in case they might be needed to protect the United States against aggression by others, which this war again, is not the case.

How could that question be answered? Of course since there are so many employers looking for help without success, I assume there are not a lot of people signing up just to find a job.

The vast majority of service men and women that I have met are solid citizens who do what they do because they feel right about it.

Of course anyone not fitting that description is held in high esteem on the nightly news.
