Is the legend true - that St Anne married three times and with each husband concieved a child?

Never heard that one. No antibiotics then, lots of war and pestilence, not impossible she outlived three husbands.

Where did you get that one? The Protoevangelium of James has Anna married to the Jewish priest Joachim,who as a Cohen had to marry a virgin, and they had no children and then only had Mary.

Nothing says that you can't be married AND a saint.
