stress causes your blood pressure to increase and at the same time constricts the blood vessels in your brain. your brain is pure nerves, so this will cause the pain , depending on how fast the pressure builds up,anything from a gradual pulse of pain to a sudden pounding agony.

Headaches are caused by a lack of blood flow to the brain.

I have suffered from migraines for years. The only thing that they can say physically happens is the blood flow to the brain is being lessened by something in the body. This prevents the brain from getting what it needs (ie. oxygen, hydration, nutrients, ect.) This is why drinking lots of water (hydrating) and taking pain killers (usually have anti-inflamitories in them)helps.

Stress, stress and more stress is a major cause of headaches..

It could be tension too of your neck muscles after sitting at a computer desk all day for example...also
when I lift weights for my upper shoulders and upper back I get headaches which I believe is due to the strain on the muscles.. all muscles up there connect to the base of the skull and could cause headaches.

it's the nerves in your head stretching over the brain and this feeling is what causes headaches.Taking painkillers eases the feeling and makes the nerves go back to normal.
