To reduce your electric bill...?

2007-07-26 11:47:59 · answer #1 · answered by Mr. Me 7 · 0 0

It's not just 'saving electricity' but saving THE PLANET ... and it is the 'making of the electricity' that is the BIG PROBLEM. Even if your electricity comes all from 'solar power' (the least polluting generally, but ONLY if the solar panels were made 'cleanly' with 'solar power' ... unlikely at this time) most of the electricity on this planet is made from things that 'pollute' ... yes, even dams 'pollute' as well as 'change to waterways' on which the dams are put. If we ALL start 'saving electricity' now, and using as little of the 'carbon burners' like gas and even diesel oil ... then PERHAPS we can 'turn the Global Warming around' before we throw ourselves into a new (and potentially TERMINAL) ice age. Electricity does 'pollute' even if it's 'started' with solar power ... it 'heats the air' ... and that 'hot air' is melting the glaciers, at both 'poles' ... with all that 'extra water' the seas are becoming 'less salty' which makes them 'warmer' at the far north and south, so more ice melts ... which causes the 'weird storms' we are having in both the winter and the summer, and it's those storms that could eventually throw us into a new ice age ... and that 'ice age' could last for 100s or even THOUSANDS of years until our earth could 'repair what is wrong' ... yes, the earth would probably 'survive' ... but the PEOPLE ON IT would find surviving an ice age of thousands (or even hundreds) of years would be virtually impossible at the 'present population' ... PEOPLE WOULD DIE ... perhaps ALL OF THE PEOPLE ... and that would be the 'end' of our story. So ... start saving electricity and doing your 'little bit' not just for YOU but for the children, grandchildren, and even 'many greats grandchildre' of ALL OF US.

If your really do not care about the environment, which to some extent is alright since we'll all be dead by the time the environment collapses, there is still another reason to save. I'm assuming you care about living happily as opposed to living for the sake of others and the environment. If that is the case, you should still save electricity to save your own money so you can enjoy more of the money you earn instead of having it be eaten away by avoidable electrical spendings.

Same reason why you shouldn't kill wildlife because there's still plenty left.

It's wrong to waste stuff just because you assume it'll still be there in the future. Even if you turn out to be right, it's better to use less and have some in reserve than use as much as possible and run into some energy crisis down the line.

There aren't any guarantees when it comes to natural resources. Coal might run out. Nuclear power is unethical, because it's totally unfair to create nuclear waste and then expect somebody somewhere to have to deal with it. It's clean...until you're faced with nuclear waste in your backyard, mutating your cells.

If you can run everything on solar power or cold fusion, sure, use all you want.

But with non-renewable resources, save some for everybody else, 'kay?

Electricity does not even last of 1 second! It must be used at the exact moment it is generated. And generators use fuel, and there is a limited amount of fuel and it is expensive. So your local power company charges you for using electricity. The more you use, the more they charge you. So if you don't want to use less electricity to save the planet, use less to save yourself money.

Well, it will lower your electric bill for one. Secondly, water is often used in the production of electricity and it is thought that their may be a shortage of fresh water at some point in the future.

Also, you can't save up electricity. If the power grid goes down, we don't have tanks of electricity to keep your AC and lights going.

Think about saving the environment as some electricity needs to harm the environment to produce electricity.

I was working for Greenpeace and one idiot said "Why don't we shut all power plants down. We get all the electricity we need from the outlets right here in our houses" Ignorance is such a bliss. By the way, Coal power plants produce per minute 20 tons of Green house gases, including lovely sulfur and carbon monoxide (deadly)

If everyone following that way of thinking it would NOT last for many many years.
At least not without polluting everything. Until electricity is made from sustainable sources everyone should be concerned about conservation.

Think about it, what happens when those years run out. You end up with little to none. Even if it doesn't run out in your lifetime, what about future generations. Also, it's better for you to conserve electricity because it saves you money.

When you save on electricity you save on the natural resources it takes to make the electricity. Water, coal, oil, gas, that stuff.
