I can't believe some of these answers. I'm a mom, a cook and I would never ever cook corn so long! If you want it to be tough and tasteless go ahead! The correct way to cook fresh corn on the cob is to bring a pot of water to a rolling boil, carefully drop the ears of corn in so that they are covered with water and set a timer for no more than 5 minutes. Perfect corn every time! EnJoY!

Here's a method that works every time, for any amount of corn. Get water to a rolling boil Salt it then, not before. Drop corn in the water. Immediately turn the heat off. In 18 minutes your corn will be perfect.

When your water has reached a rolling boil four to six ears of corn take exactly 8 minutes. Any more and the kernals go mushy.

Pull back the husk and remove the husk smear on some butter (flavoured if you want) and microwave for a minute or till just tender and still crisp.

Here's a couple from food network, good luck.

Corn on the Cob with Parmesan Cheese Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis
Show: Everyday Italian
Episode: Cook with your Kids

1/2 cup olive oil
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan
2 tablespoons chopped fresh Italian parsley leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 ears yellow corn, husked, halved crosswise

Heat the oil in a heavy small skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and saute until tender and fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove the skillet from the heat and cool. Set aside 2 tablespoons of the Parmesan cheese and stir the rest into the garlic mixture, along with the parsley and salt.
Cook the corn in a large saucepan of boiling salted water until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Using tongs, transfer the corn to a platter. Brush the cheese mixture over the hot corn and serve. Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of cheese on top of the corn.

Grilled Corn on the Cob with Lime Butter Recipe courtesy Tyler Florence
Show: Food 911
Episode: Texas Ranch Roast

12 ears fresh corn, unshucked
1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
3 limes, zest finely grated
1 bunch fresh chervil, chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/2 pound queso fresco, finely grated
1/4 cup Ancho Chile Rub, recipe follows, or cayenne pepper

Soak the corn in a large container of water for 1 hour. Prepare the grill. Put the soaked cobs on the hot grill and cook for 30 to 40 minutes, turning frequently. The corn is done when it feels soft when you press on it.
While the corn is grilling make the lime butter: In a small bowl add the butter, lime zest, chervil, and salt and pepper, to taste. Mix well and spread onto a large plate. Spread the queso fresco onto another plate.

Take the corn off the grill and carefully peel back the husks (it will be hot). Remove the corn silk and tie the husks in a knot so you can hold on to it like a handle. Roll in the lime butter and then roll in the queso fresco; sprinkle with the Ancho Chile Rub. Place on a large platter and serve immediately.

For the Ancho Chile Rub:
3 ancho chiles, seeded and hand-torn into pieces
1/4 cup chili powder
2 tablespoons ground coriander
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons sweet paprika
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the spice rub: Toast the ancho chile pieces over low heat in a dry skillet until fragrant, shaking the pan so they don't scorch. Put the chiles in spice grinder and pulse to a powder. Add the remaining ingredients and buzz again to combine.

When I cook it that way I like to put it in a pan of bubbling salty water for about 20 minutes. I don't like the corn to get too mushy. Sometimes I start it out that way, for about ten minutes, and then lay it flat on microwave dish with a little squirt of butter, and finish it off, checking it every few minutes till it's just right according to whoever is going to eat it.

boil 5 to 7 minutes... anything longer is just crazy since you lose a lot of flavor.

You want the corn hot enough to melt butter.

I actually eat my corn RAW..fresh off the cob. This is the healthiest way to eat corn and trust me...it's SOOOOO good! When you cook food, you destroy the nutrients and enzymes. Eating fresh, plant based food is the healthiest cuisine in the world. Try it :)
