If any man will come after me,let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoeverwill lose his life for my sake shall find it.For what is man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

This was my Mom's favorite scripture. We have to deny self. Carnal man is an enemy to God. It is our nature to want to sin and feed our life with worldly pleasures. We want what satan and the world has to offer. Just look around you at the world today and you'll see what I mean. We can become the most affluent person in the world but if we don't have God -we have lost it all at the end of the journey. We have profitted nothing. But as Christians we have to deny our sinful life and follow God. Taking up his cross and following him. That means really denying flesh, everyday. Separating yourself from the world and trying to live a clean-holy life for God.That makes you an enemy of satan. But if we do that we have a far greater reward at the end. We may lose our natural life-but receive a better one in the here after.

It's one of my favorite scriptures.
Denying yourself does not mean denying your
personality or the strengths God made you to
have and use. It means admitting imperfection
in understanding and admitting that you are
unrighteous without God. It means freeing
yourself to change and be directed in any way
that God wants and He does abundantly above all
we ask, think, or imagine!
It is an eternal perspective and also being unselfish -
not living for earthly treasures but for heavenly treasures
that are much better and last!
It's giving yourself up in order to gain much more.
I can't do it justice - I love the way it is worded
as it is!

The life of a christian can be a rocky road.( Pick up your cross and follow me) If a person takes the easy road (going along without God) he may gain fame, money , riches & friends but he looses out when it comes to salvation.

One of my favorite passage. It describes why others do not want of Jesus. They do not want to pick up their cross, deny their very own life and give it to Christ. They want to live their life to the fullest and have fun but in the end they will lose their soul.
