My friend has lice and she has used the Nix product once last week and once yesterday, but it still didn't work, she found a live one in her hair. Her pharmacist said that you can't apply it more than once a week, because it is bad for your skin. All the nits that were seen were removed, but she still has head lice and it isn't going away. Does anyone have a cure for this burden, because if hers doesn't get cured soon, it may spread to me. I think that I already have it so please, tell me what works, that I can use now, or in another week, it doesn't matter, I just need something that works and soon! Thank you so much, you are doing a great favor!

For all of you sarcastic people who say shave your head, you're only gonna get the two points for answering, and maybe a couple bad votes. I don't know why you answer if you know that you aren't going to have a chance at the best answer. But thank you so much to those of you who have given me good answers, I really appreciate it!

The best thing to suggest if to get a suggestion from a pharmacist... it worked for lot of my frends...try to get a comb which has teeth very near... try combing on wet hair.. lice will be fater when they get soaked in water... so you get them to your comb... try not to keep your head greasy..
i know how irritating and embarassing it is... you can get brochures in cvs... it really helps.. dont use shampoos just by listening to lame people as it may damage your hair... they will be strong.... the best thing is to ask a phamacist...
good luck...

Chalk it up to bad experiences with head lice as a child that I would even suggest this, but my sister and I had chronic head lice as children. We lived in a very poor area and everyone had it and it just passed from house to house. Here goes: dog shampoo - the green stuff for fleas and ticks. The same chemical that kills those little buggers get head lice, too. The only difference is that after the initial shampoo, we would wash in another batch and leave it in. (Assuming that you are not an infant and won't choke) tie a plastic grocery-type bag over your hair and sleep in the cap. In the morning you will find the lice that tried to jump out asphyxiated on the inside of the bag. It's kind of cool, in a gross way. Then just use the dog shampoo on a regular basis, if they are common in your area. This will get ALL of the live ones on the first try. Then just use the egg comb that comes in the kit for eggs and wash your bedding (that's very important!). Good luck!

If you or another adult has been infested then retrace your steps for the past week or so and call everyone you have been in close contact with. Lice cannot jump or fly so transmission is usually caused by sustained contact with someone else who is infested or with infested objects (a hair brush, hat, seat back, shirt, pillow, etc).
You won't completely get rid of head lice until you make sure to wash ALL bedding, hairbrushes, combs, hats, clothing, and anything that may come in contact with infested hair.
Steps to getting rid of lice:
Eliminate the source of infestation
Eliminate the lice from the person
Eliminate all nits (egg sacs)

Don't panic. Take a deep breath....let it out..OK
My sister had a similar situation in her home daycare. She was pregnant and couldn't use the Nix. This sounds strange, but it really does work...
Mayonnaise. Not the Miracle Whip salad dressing, but real mayonnaise. Apply it to the hair and then wrap your hair in a plastic bag (not your whole head, you need to breathe). Wait six hours and then wash the hair with a clarifying shampoo.
One more tip...you must make sure everything that you use on the hair gets washed and boiled (if possible). Hair ties are especially important...and use bug spray on the drawer where your hair items are kept.
Good luck!

All the advices are perfectly right, please make your friend to follow them. But your friend also need to know who in her family is infected to, or a person close to her. Tell her to keep washing her hair every 7 days, use the combs and if she have long hair, she should cut as much as she can. That will help a lot. It's an horrible experience. It took my friend's daughter about a year to get rid of lice's.

Please, do not take flea shampoo or any carcinogenic, pesticide based products that contain powerful neuro-toxins and then place this on your highly permeable scalp. Flea shampoo is even worse for you as this is not intended for human use!
Try to get yourself a natural head lice remedy, one that contains Neem Oil. The Neem tree is native to India, is known as the ‘Cure All’ tree and has been used as a natural insecticide for thousands of years. When you mix this with other natural ingredients that kill both lice and nits you have a totally safe treatment.
If you want to suffocate the live lice, coat your hair in baby oil mixed with Neem oil, put on a showercap and leave it on overnight. Put on a sweatband to stop the drips. This will suffocate them and also Neem Oil renders them unable to reproduce. This means they will never be able to build up a resistance.
In the morning straighten your hair with hair straighteners to pop the nits. Repeat this in 7 days to catch any nits that hatch that you missed. Use mousse or hairspray every day to simulate 'dirty' hair which lice find hard to attach to.
We got hold of a book called 'Live Lice Free - The Head Lice Handbook.' This had everything we needed to know to get rid of head lice as well as many other natural remedies. Their personal remedy worked for us first time and killed all the nits and lice.
Hope this helps.

Shampoo, comb the nits, shampoo again according to the directions in a few days or a week. Wash your bed sheets, esp. pillowcases, every day (yeah, it's a pain, but really, do you want to get rid of them or not?), wash any other surfaces that your head comes into contact with (think sofa, high chair back). Rinse and repeat for about 2 weeks.
