why do you put "."????
i assume c3 is ur reference cell?

i can tell you this excel will not accept : unless you have done something strange with it.

SUM is redundant if you have only 1 value which is the case here.

excell does the calculations in the brackets first then divides if you use the / character.

Then it gives a result. when you type SUM it tries to sum up this result with something. but it has only one value. the result (c3*23)/7 which is a single value.

try =(c3*23)/7

however if you use c3 there must be something inside the c3 cell. i assume the vlue inside c3 is 2886.

when you write % do you mean percentage?

You only can use the SUM formula if you are adding consecutive numbers in a column or row. Unfortunately,the way the formula is being used is incorrect. I tried =(C3 * .23)/7 and it works. For example, if you wanted to add the entire A column from A1 to A10 then it would go like this =SUM(A1:A10)...if you wanted to include your formula with this then it would be =(SUM(A1:A10) * (C3 * .23)) / 7. I hope that helps :-).

I do not see why the sum command is used.

this is what you want:

=2886*0.23/7

enter the above in the cell where you want the answer and you should see the value 94.83
