Would you support a pastor who called the obese/gluttons an abomination, degenerate, or scum of the earth?

Question

How about if a pastor used these names to describe someone who has filed bankruptcy or defaulted on credit card debt, etc... (someone who has stolen, broken one of the 10 commandments)

Would you support a pastor that used these words to describe someone who was divorced/remarried, (by fundamentalist standards, they are committing adultery)

So, would you give your support to such hate speech against the obese/gluttons, bankrupt, or divorced/remarried?

If not, why do you support churches/pastors that use these words against homosexuals.

Pat Robertson called Ellen Degeneres a degenerate...Jerry Falwell called the homosexuals the scum of the earth...and pastors on a regular basis, even on this site call gay people an abomination. I have heard many more adjectives used by pastors for homosexuals.

So, why? Why do you allow such terrible language toward homosexuals...but, would not stand for it against others?

I agree with you completely, but I do have a comment. The word "abomination" appears in some translations of the Bible in the Levitican verse anti-gay Christians use to justify homophobia. So, what you get when you question that is: "Oh, I'm not saying it, God is saying it. If you have a problem with it, your problem is with God, not me." You can find PLENTY of other examples of anti-gay hate speech which cannot be considered scriptural by some.

One of the things I find telling is that we are told that revilers are self-condemned. In one of the very verses those promoting the anti-gay lifestyle use to justify homophobia (1 Cor., 6:9-10), "revilers" are included as a group of people who will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But in their self-righteous zeal to attack gay people, they overlook themselves in the very same verse!

Again, you do an excellent job of pointing out the astounding hypocrisy in the anti-gay movement.

I call them a abomination, but I surely do not hate them. There is right and there is wrong, sorry to have to tell you that simple fact.

But most Pastor's say things that I do not agree with all the time. Course I have not met that one person that do agree with all the time.

So why is it OK to call people homophobes just because they believe something is wrong?

And Ellen Degeneres and Rosie O'Donnell are both lowlife degenerates but that's just my opinion. If they were not homosexuals, guess what?, I would still feel the same way about them.

I wouldn't have a problem with them calling any ACT they believed to be wrong (gluttony, adultery, lieing, whatever) an "abomination." However, calling ANYBODY (gay or otherwise) the "scum of the earth" is inexcusable and I don't see how they could defend such comments even by their own Bible.
