My mom is taking new vitamins and I need to know how much is to much on certain things.... The vitamin E level is 1533% of her daily value... calium is only 93% and vitamin B12 is 417% of her daily value. I need to know is this is too much or not enough. By the way she is 50. I know that a person can overdose on calcium but I can't find anything that says how much calcium it would take for her to OD. She is lactose intolerant so she does not have alot of milk products.

Thank you for your help!

Most muti-vitamins have the right amounts.

It depends, doesn't it?

I mean here, many vitamins do not thoroughly assimilate into the circulatory system anyway because they are manufactured too coarse -- without using the powdered forms or grinding them down with mortar and pestle.

Thus the digestive tract cannot break these pills and tabs down but rather they are only passed through the digestive tract almost intact: hence the body is getting little or nothing anyway.

Companies that synthesize and distribute these nutrients will not tell you this; in fact, are not required by laws to do so.

All right, that is comparatively the minor point.

The critical point is this. These vitamins and minerals are nothing to trifle with, especially can the fat soluble ones, such as Vitamin E, be toxifying and corruptive of the liver.

You are indicating already here that she is well above the RDA's for Vitamin E and B12.

This should be stopped at once.

Better, prompt her to see a licensed dietitian...

'Or a Family Practice physician or an Ob-Gyn.

For what she is doing -- if it is true what you say -- is misusing these substances, which her own uncaring, in effect, can cause her certain harm.
