Most cars back then were either 3 speed autos or 4 speed manuals. "three on the tree" or "four on the floor" were common names for them.
He COULD have a new tranny on there, but most likely hes just full of crap.

Well, they didn't come from the factory like that, but it could have been retrofitted with a later model drivetrain.
67 Mustangs came with 3 speed automatics, three speed manual or 4 speed manual transmissions. Also, they came either with inline or 'straight' sixes (sometimes referred to as an I6 or an L6), or V8s.

Ford didn't build it that way. If the guy has it, then good for him. Ask him who put it in? He either has a new mustang, or he has gotten a new drivetrain from a new car wreck at a slavage yard. good luck.
