Gerber, buck, and spyder co. are all in the same line pretty much, theres nothing wrong with them they are good knives for the price. If you are looking for a good knife that will hold a razor edge i would advice you to look into the CRKT knives.

Gerber is a good brand for knives if your planning on cuddling with it at night. If you are looking for knive that will stand up to whatever you throw at it or throw it at, this probaly is not the brand for you. I bought one of the gerber applegates and within two days, the tip broke off making it the most expensive flathead screwdriver ive ever bought. In my opinion, if your looking for a tough knife that will keep its edge, go with a Cold Steel. www.Coldsteel.com

They make great knives. In fact, a lot of their designs and innovations end up being copied by a lot of other companies. Their lifetime guarantee is tops, too.
I still carry one of their original (un-numbered) multitools in my pocket every time I leave the house. I have five of them....and I use them at least once a day even at home.
Gerber, as a brand, hasn't been made in the US in quite a few years, though. All their products that folks love so much are made in China. Now let's see how many folks, all the sudden, don't like their merchandise? ;)

Foldering knives: I prefer my Smith and Wesson SWAT or Cold Steel Voyager.
Gerbers are great for the money. My buddy likes Columbia River I think it is called. Anything else is pretty much recylce beer can.
Fixed or hunters. My SOG TigerShark is the best. SOG makes the strongest, sharpest knives you can buy. Of course you will pay for it.

I have owned and used a few Gerber knives some were pretty good and a few had blades made of steel that was too soft to be suitable for knife blades. Your best bet is a Buck knife. I have never owned one that wasn't of top notch workmanship and excellent material.

I've never liked Gerber knives. Try out a Spyderco knife.

Yes Gerber is a very good knife for the money, you can spend a little more and buy a Boker and have twice the knife.

Gerbers are good until you lose them like I did. Try a Gerber-Applegate covert. They're nice!
