Raisins , Prunes/prune juice it worked wonders on my little boy also If he likes baked beans they are good to, try cereal such as weetabix and my sneaky one is to make (cornflake) cakes but in stead use either bran flakes or something like special K as they have more fibre.
If it doesn't get any better try fibre gel although he may not want to drink it as it isn't all that nice or take him to the doctors they could prescribe something like lactoloose (not sure if that is spelt right though)

Naturally, orange juice, plums, even maybe raisins. Then there are some laxatives that are not very recommended, and I have tried on my daughter once with not much result. I usually use OJ or dried plums which are also yummy. When she got really constipated we had to use the glicerin stools, poor thing, but it helped her a lot to bring it out. What they do is hold it in because they know it will hurt if they try to go.
My pedi told me that thye get constipated when they try to potty train, hold off a few weeks and then try again slower. Our daughter had this same thing happen to her twice, now she is very eager for the potty, still working on it though.

My friend told me about smarter potty training using The Potty Stool. http://www.thepottystool.com I was skeptical the stool would make a difference but I never would have guessed how well it works!
I think it really help boys to pee standing so that they can see what is happening and connect the sensations. The Potty Stool lets boys do this with ease and accuracy. I realized later that my kids really wanted to imitate what they saw adults doing and they were very determined to mimic correct toilet use. It also works great with bowel movements. By providing a stable platform for kid's feet, they can push bowel movements much easier. I know my friend's child was constipated because she could not relax on the toilet. The Potty Stool takes away the fear and allows kids to relax and finish their poop easily and quickly.
This really is smart potty training. I like that I don't have to use or clean a floor potty and I love that my kids are safe and never have to touch the toilet with their hands! My kids just get right up to the toilet on their own.
The best part is that kids use it for years. Hope this helps you.

Is he constipated, or just holding it in? If he has only started suffering since potty training, it may be a reaction to that.
Orange juice, prunes, weetabix, all bran, all of these will help get it moving. Or try putting a pair of pull ups or a nappy on him and see if he goes then. If he does it in a nappy, perhaps he is not quite ready for potty training?

Could it be that he's nervous? Some kids have that kind of reaction to potty-training and would refuse. Suppositories, prune juice....even prune's by itself, if he would eat them...Prune juice mixed with apple juice. Maybe some shredded wheat cereal...(bite size). Some type of fiber. Here are some types of examples: Some high fiber foods include:
Wheat bran, which you can add to his diet in muffins, breads, casseroles, meat loaf, etc.;
Fruits & vegetables - especially spinach, corn on the cob, nectarines and peaches;
Cooked prunes, dates, figs and legumes - especially baked beans, black beans, garbanzos and kidney beans; and
Whole grain breads and cereals. Have him drinks lots of fluids and not so much milk, yogurt, chesse or much dairy for that matter. Mineral oil is also said to be effective. Hope he feels better soon.

Apple juice. Lots and lots of apple juice. Prune juice is better, but kids like apple juice better. If it doesn't work in a couple days, get something from the doctor. It sounds like he is holding out for a diaper. My kid did that. I made her sit on her potty chair until she did it. She was so proud!

Have you tried prune juice. You may want to freeze some in ice cube trays and let him eat it when thawed or mix it with a yoghurt. Pureed veg may also help, which you could mix in with some mash potatoe. Try to get as much water down him as possible. If it persists have a word with your health visitor or GP.

In addition to adding more fruit to his diet, you can try rubbing his belly in a clockwise motion - sit him on your lap whilst you're reading a book or watching TV together, it's an ideal time to do it.
I also found that after a belly rub, if I popped my daughter into a nice warm bath to play for a little while, she could usually go after she'd been in there for 15 mins or so.
