I believe Jesus was a moral teacher, but he wasn't the son of God. Why would God need a son? Can he not communicate with all of us directly? If so, why doesn't he? Wouldn't it be that much easier to find the "truth" than having us rely on possible hearsay? And why should I believe Jesus any more than Buddha, or Mohammaed, or anyone else who claims to be in communication with God?

Do you believe in God? In God's Word? God's word took on flesh.
We Catholics are not the ones who took stuff out of the bible....any changes to the Bible have strictly been in the translations as our knowledge of Jesus, First Century Judaism, Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic improved. For example, it's been positively centuries since anyone spoke with "thee", "thy" and "thou"....but the King James Version keeps it. Catholics changed that way back. You can believe what Catholics teach....our teachings go all the way back to Jesus and the apostles.

first of all there are thousands of copies of the original new testament manuscripts dating to the first century that are now translated into the bible so how can you say it has been edited and changed?
I’d say my favorite "proof" is that He was seen resurrected after His crucifixion... think about it the 11 disciples were willing to be killed instead of denying Christ... if you learn about the ways they were killed you'd understand why they couldn't be making it up... no one would die like that for a lie

One day we will all find out the truth. What proof do you have that the Bible has been edited? Have you even bothered to read it? If not how do you know for certain that it is false; if so how do you know it is false? I'll bet you've heard or been told so by someone who also hasn't read it. Just spread more ignorance why don't you!
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance--that principle is contempt prior to investigation." --Herbert Spencer

"The bible has been changed and edited as well as things taken out along the years..."

The Bible is the word of God and is not corrupt. The word of God is a tool that God uses to bring you to his truth. I can not convince you of God but revelation comes through the gift of faith from God to those who love and seek his truth.

If Jesus was the son of God, where are all the records detailing his child support payments? I mean, God wouldn't have been a dead-beat-dad, would he?

Jesus said He was the Son of God:
"Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS'?
"If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),
do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? "
John 10:34-36
The Father testified in an audible voice from heaven that Jesus was His Son:
"After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him,
and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."
Matthew 3:16-17
and again:
"Six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves.
And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!" '
Matthew 17:1-5
And finally, the Father bore witness to Him by raising Him from the dead:
"Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures,
concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh,
who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, "
Romans 1:1-4
This is to make no mention at all of prophecies concerning His appearing, some given well over a thousand years before His birth, nor of the continuous testimonies of believers today, testifying of what He has done in our lives.
