Could hospital cat be angel of death?
- He is a two-year-old cat and looks innocent enough. But at the nursing home where he lives in the US state of Rhode Island, Oscar has developed a reputation as an angel of death.

Since being adopted as a kitten by staff at the advanced dementia unit of Providence's Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Oscar has revealed a rather morbid tendency to pick which patient is going to die next.

According to David Dosa, a geriatrician at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Oscar makes regular rounds, looking in on patients and giving them a quick sniff, before either moving on or settling down for a cuddle.

I don't think so animals just have a sense of these things.I believe like the article says this lets them know when something it going to happen. When Oscar sits by that person the nurses know to call the family.I think this is a wonderful thing it lets the family be there for their loved one.

I am 54 years old and was given my first pet a kitten when i was 4 years old, This is my honest story from long years of watching and studying Cats, If you involve a cat in whatever you do every day a cat will serve a kinda apprenticeship with you and learn a lot by watching you , They are exceedingly intelligent and very perceptive, They I am sure have great powers` we know nothing about, They can predict storms. So it is not too too surprising that a cat can sense or smell something in the human spirit when that body reaches the end of its life,,Cats do really connect with humans at a very spiritual
level,,,proof, the next time you see a cat approach then pause to stare up at you if you think something nice about the cat it will tend to carry on up to you and maybe brush around your ankles,,,Think something really nasty about the cat and it will likely shy off,,,,Oscar has seen many people come and go since he was a kitten he knows the scent or the sense when a person is going to check out and just maybe there is a happiness for him to spend some time with this spirit at the point of the death of the body,,So I think this is a sign that is all good,,,p/s The Eygptians Venerated cats and they were into serious Spiritualism,,they knew cats had great powers /pps I truly love Cats and they know it even when people say to me ohh he wont come to you he's so mean the cat will come to me and will be purring in seconds and be my best friend

Oh get real. Serial Killer means they're killing people deliberately.

The cat can sense when a person is dying and is going to be near the person, NOT causing the problem inthe first place. The NOVA special last year showed another hospital cat who was doing the same thing, warning the nurses which room was going to have someone pass on soon. He also went in and laid with the person waiting.

Cats sense energy and they can probably smell a shift in pheromones that our bodies put out. A body that's in the process of shutting down does release gasses and molocules of scent. The cats just recognize this particular scent as 'going to die' and act accordingly. It doesn't make the cat a killer.

No he is not a serial killer or an angel of death. He is just a cat. Animals can sometime sense things like this & he is probably just trying to bring the patients & family comfort in the last few moments of the patients life. I never realized that a poor little kitty would be so scrutinized. I thought it was a neat article. Think about it if it was your relative & you got notified that it was the last time you would be able to spend with that person. To be able to call the families in so they can spend the last moments with their loved one...that should make it all ok.

Cats used to be accused of stealing a babies breath when they sleep.
Turns out that they would climb on the baby and lay down on its warmest part. Which happened to be its head and would accidentally suffocate it. But this could only happen to a very small baby since anyone else would just push it off.
In this case I think the cat can just sense when a person is near death.

Animals are more in tune with things then people are and they sence things in a different way. Look at the dog that has pionted out cancer in many different people. I think the cat just dose not want the people to die alone

I recon the cat is a demon, in disguise as a cat and is siting on their chest and sucking the life force out of them!

Cats can sense when someone is feeling bad or sick. So he's not going to "kill them," he is going to comfort them. Which is nice, especially those who will die if they have no family to hold their hand as they leave this world.

My cat can tell when I am sad; when I go lay down and cry, she will lie down next to me, look me in the eyes, and use her paw to grip my finger until one of us falls asleep. She's the greatest comfort when I am sad.

perhaps cats have a sense of who needs the most love and cuddling, or who may have the least time left. cats have long been linked to the metaphysical and mystical world, and death.

i have just read this article, like some dogs that sense cancer, he senses death, its amazing that he settles on the bed of the person about to die...strange!
cats are very receptive to moods, when you are down or sad they know!
i don't think we will ever know how he 'predicts' this!
