depends what unit really.. some are dealing with the logistics of supplying water..

i could understand why there is unrest, as some people are being greedy and selling water at silly prices or worse vandelising the water things.

The Army are just there to help with the logistics. The units that are there are from the local area (43 Wessex Brigade) and the UK has units like this for 'Home Defence' on standby 24/7 for things like flooding or other things like 'foot and mouth'. Of course they are directed by the 'Gold Command' which is run by a civi so if the police requested further assistance in providing security the army would provide it.

Civil unrest is a matter for the police when the army have been deployed in the past for instance in the Liverpool Police Strike in the early 20th century they were ineffective even though they patrolled with fixed bayonets and a battleship was moored in the river to give backup..

You may be on to something, because from day one there seemed to be a problem about 'water'. Bottled water was being purchased from supermarkets by black gangs, who were then attempting to sell it back to the public outside for £5.00 per bottle. This lead to scuffles, according to one report.

For scuffles read 'open rioting' which I think had a blanket thrown over it.

Keep watching. Best source of info may be the 'blogs' associated with Gloucester and it's environs. Someone must know what's going on.

TV News coverage has been done in the dark with someone standing in front of a lot of water. Beyond that you can see nothing and are told very little, except how much or how less water there is now. Blah etc.

Edit: the water bousers are probably being vandalised by the very same people who now have cornered the bottle water trade.

Want to know what harsh punishment will be handed down to anyone caught vandalising a bouser!!

No. The police would deal with any civil unrest. I doubt the nice people in Gloucester have got what it takes to require the army to sort them out. Would you risk a bullet for a bottle of Evian?

Their is no need for the military to use firearms in the event of unrest from any yobbos in the Gloucester area or any other area, a riot baton pr pick-axe handle will do nicely to control any yobbos.

Most definitely - Gloucestershire is the centre of Anarchist activity in the UK. Special Forces are on standby in case of an insurrection in Cheltenham - it may begin at the Ladies College.
