I'm a food distributor and I would like to know if its appropriate to ask the following to current customers..

Is it appropriate to ask current customers the following:

"If there is anyone that you know that you think can use my services and products, I would love for you to either refer me to them or have you let them know about me and my contact information."

Is this appropriate and professional?

Any suggestions on how to tweak this statement - question?

i think that's a good way to get More business word of mouth is the most effective way to get costumers. Grate thinking!
But if your going to ask this to customers face-to-face then try to make it sound more casual like saying 'if you know of anyone who could use this please tell them about me and I'll try to help them the best that i can"
you might get a better chance of your customers telling their friends that way.
good luck with your business

I personally wouldn't mind too much.

However, there are key factors that would make it successful.

Please make sure you provide great service. As a person with a customer's mind, if someone said that after providing mediocre service, I would fake a smile and you'll never hear from me again.

Just remember how you deliver it is just as important as what you say.

That's not bad... What you might want to do is make up business cards with your contact info, and when you pass them out to certain customers, mark them so you know who referred the newbie and send the existing customer a thank you.

Absolutely, yes! Word of mouth is a most effective form of advertising. You will get a higher percentage of sales from you asking this question of your clients, compared to ANY other form of advertising.

Be sure you also leave a few of your business cards with those clients you ask.

I think it would be fine. Do you work for a company or yourself? If you work for yourself you could consider offering a discount on your next order to anyone that refers someone that places an order.

I think thats fine and if they agree to tell their friends about you, you should give them some extra business cards to hand out to people they know that would be interested.

Yes, you can also put this on the back of your business card which you should give to all your clients. Give them more than one card so they can give to those who are thinking of such service.
