I'm a food distributor and I would like to know if its appropriate to ask the following to current customers..

Is it appropriate to ask current customers the following:

"If there is anyone that you know that you think can use my services and products, I would love for you to either refer me to them or have you let them know about me and my contact information."

Is this appropriate and professional?

Any suggestions on how to tweak this statement - question?

No, it's not appropriate. It would be horrible to put your customers on the spot like that. And the line is poorly worded. They know you're open for business, and if they're happy with you, they'll tell others.

The best thing you can do it get some nice, simple business cards made up and leave a few of them with every order. This subtlety will go a long way. You'll generate new business while looking classy. Maybe put the line "The best compliment I can receive is your referral."

Yes it is appropriate. Your trying to make a living and if you don't ask... it will not happen. I would go as far as asking for 3 family or Friends that might be interested with numbers to pull in more customers. Good Luck!

As a satisfied customer, I would greatly appreciate your recommendation to anyone you know who can use my services and products.

Give them several business cards.
A reward may be in order such as some freebie.

why sure its fine! you gotta do a little promotion once in a while.
if you can afford it throw in an incentive to your current customers to refer new people to you. give em a free product for every 2 referrals or something...

It's appropriate if you have a good casual relationship with the client.
