Emo is just another dumb stereotype, like jock or prep, or punk. they really dont mean much. generally emo kids are the one you see dressed in all black that cut themselves and say that life sucks. no it doesnt mean that she is emo, kids that are "preps, jocks and nerds" can hurt themselves too. it really doesnt matter what social group you are in, anyone can do it. i know for a fact that i would hurt myself over my mom being in the hospital and my dad dying... but thats just my bad way of dealing w/ stuff.

I don't know if "emo" is exactly a term used in the psychology/psychiatry community. She should go see a doctor, psychologist or counselor. She probably needs to talk to someone, it seems like your friend (or you) is having trouble dealing with some issues.

Emo is a genre of Punk music, so no I don't think she has become a personification of a music genre.

But I do think that she suffers from depression and should go see a shrink.

according to teenagers, emo is a person who hurts themselves... cuts themselves. so if you're going to go according to teenagers, yes shes emo. She needs help.
