If I did try to brake into a house I would try to avoid the big dogs like yours, I have a female akita and a female german shepard and they try to kill anyone suspicious that comes around me or my house. I live in Detroit and have to walk around downtown and my dogs have saved me from getting mugged and offered drugs.

well, now say I am a dog burglar, I think that if you had a boy I would not be quite so inclined to steal your girl, but maybe I would go pee all over your yard for a week every night so your boy would be out and I, the nice other boy mutt(also known as The Dog Burglar) would give your girl a dozen bags of trash and promise her the town dump if she would run away with me and then once we were safely away I would find a forest to raise our little mongrel pups and you would never find us again. Now if I was a human burglar(why would anyone want to steal a human? There are like 6 billion of us and we are quite prolific but hypothetically) I would give your dogs big hunks of the toughest meat I could find and whisk you off into the muddy, rainy blue yonder where we would use our brains together and win the lottery and then rich as all heck I would go to burmuda and enjoy the sun and I would assume you would go somewhere and buy really expensive doggies and go home to your wife and you would live out your lives happily ever after with big, grrowly dogs and a state of the art security system in case someone again decides you are people snatchingly worthy and they need someone to help them win a game show(your wife accidently disables the alarm every night in the hopes that they do) but alas noone does and your wife gets a boob job.

Well, if I was a burglar I would spend more time watching the set up.. I would watch the dogs to see what they are like.. Honestly tho I would likely be more apt to be worried about the house with 2 dogs in it.. 1 you might be able to sneak past, or baffle, but 2, you are going to be SOL unless they are not socialized at all and are so afraid of a stranger entering the house that they hide under the bed..
Then I am free to do what I want while I am in there..

I think burgulars unless they are amature, watch the house befor the break in. To see when the owners are usually gone. To see if any windows are normally kept open, to judge the best way to get in. They also have to watch the house in order to know there is somethign in there they want.
Although a dog at first might scare them away, if they watch and see that the dog isnt going to do anythign to them, then they have no cautions to breaking in. However if the dog shows signs that it will rip their head off, that would detur them. Some people crate the dogs and if the burgulars notice this, that would deffinatly not keep the burgulars from breakin in.

Because I know dogs.....and used to live in a bad place....no
Where I used to live the dogs would be poisoned or killed in some way and the burglar would still steal. The only homes not broken into were ones with alarm systems.
So don't get a dog for protection....get a system that will actually notify the police if someone breaks in. You can kill a dog.

If I were a burglar, I would avoid homes with a pair of dogs that are used to working together. My grandparents used to have such a pair, and they never got trouble from criminals or solicitors. One dog was some kind of hound. The other was some kind of large long-haired dog.

I have a very good friend whose 2 big guard dogs were shot so the thieves could ransack the house in peace. I've come to believe an alarm system is a more workable solution. While I appreciate that normal people would back down when faced with 2 nasty dogs, I simply don't expect burglars to be normal.

I would never break into a house with less than 2 dogs. That would be stupid. See when you get inside, you have steaks for the dogs. They then befriend you and will follow you cause you have more steak. They then can be used as pack animals to help me haul your stuff out. It's best if you have a boy and girl dog because if I don't have steak I just sprinkle some homemade female dog scent on the female dog and that keeps them busy as well. Whats your address?

If I knew there was something in there that I wanted, I would try to deal with the dogs by bringing bones or treats to keep them quiet. If I was just looking for a place to rob I would most likely pass over a house with a couple of big dogs.
I'm not a burglar though.
