What does true religion means to you?
Does it have to be one or the other or nothing at all? maybe each one has something to contribute? why not!

To me true religion is your personal relationship with God..It is your belief in God and his word the Bible. It has nothing to do with a Church nor a religion. Its in your heart and you tell others about the glorious good new of Jesus and the Kingdom of God..not only through words that you speak to other but your actions to others..The love that is so important to be shown to all men. Not to judge others..live as sinless as possible ..as imperfect as we are as humans..I think God looks into our hearts and read them..I know he does..that is what the Bible says..Religions were made long ago when Jesus followers all started to disagree on matters..They decided to seperate and go their own ways..But..The one thing that they all had in common was their Love for God and the belief that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. That is the bond that all Christians have ..no matter what their religion is.

The question is - is there and absolute truth...
If there is - then there is only one answer, not one answer for each person for however they feel that particular day.
This is why it's so difficult for different religious groups to get along - they all believe there is absolute truth. Meaning if one is right then all other religious groups are not only wrong but attack the very thing that we believe is absolute truth.
If you learn a bit more about all of the monthiestic religions, you'll understand that Jews believed Jesus was a liar - and Muslims believe he was not God and put Judas on the cross in his place to escape death - making Jesus a liar and a deceiver - both very offending to the Christians.
Christians believe that Mohammed was not a prophet but a deceiver and an inventer of his own religion for power, Jews believe the same thing - this is very offending to the Muslims.
Christians believe that the Jews have missed out on their Messiah, and the Muslims believe the Jews aren't worshiping the right God (Ishmael vs. Isaac) - obviously this is very offending to the Jews.
How are you supposed to say that bits of each religion can work together when their core beliefs are so conflicting???

I believe in God and Jesus Christ, but I'm not tied to any particular church. I go to a Christian church because I like the way the pastor talks and the way the atmosphere is inside the church. I recently took a survey and the man became very frustrated because I wouldnt put a label on what I believe.
I dont like labels. I was 14 when I decided I would make any confessions to God directly and not the priest inside the box.
I didnt like the hypocrosy I saw in the Catholic church. I try to be the best person I can be and so far, it's working out well. I'll be 70 in January and it's doubtful that I'll join any organized religion between now and the end.

The world's religions are very different.. So different that we can logically only come to one of two conclusions:

Either one religion is correct and all the others are false, or all religions are false.

I look at the world and I see that humans are the only beings who seek a higher meaning.. Animals don't do that. Plants don't do that. Only us. We're the only ones who seem to care. Why? Could we really have "evolved" this trait? Or could there really be a God, a Creator, and we are designed to seek him? I for one believe there is a God, and he is the God of the Bible. I don't believe that any one denomination of Christianity is absolutely correct, but I believe that born-again Christians are the only ones who are on the right track.

All the religions we have today are pretty true. You behave, and you will get a good reward. That is what religion is all about.

In this sense, Confucianism may not be a "true" religion, because there is no god, heaven or hell. You behave for goodness' sake. Confucius says that we should behave like a perfect gentleman even in a savage country.

Do we all need a religion?

I don't believe in true religion. I think there is a true reality out there, and religion is man's way of trying to make sense of that spiritual reality. However, I think the truth is larger than any of us can comprehend. Thus, no religion can be perfect and contain all the truth (and some religions may contain little if any truth). Thus, there can be no "true religion."

Some religions are simply closer to the truth than others. But since knowledge of that truth is largely internal, its up to each of us to try figuring out which religions are closer to being right.

There is no "true religion" If religion is true, how do you know who is correct? The hindus, with many gods and castes/re-incarnation, the muslims with allah, the jews or the catholics?

Religion was just invented as a way of controlling people. It varied in translations and being re-told so thats why you have all different "versions".

Yes I think there are certian things from every religion that make sense, and if you want to adopt little pieces from each, why not?

Give me a couple of months to get a better grip on "true" and then I might be ready to tackle "religion"

They are both variable terms, culturally and historically.

True: straight, unbent, exact to specification
(mainly engineering) also the idea of "on target": the arrow flew straight and true.

True: in accord with reality (popular use)
Also not fake or adulterated: "true love"

True: a value in a logic system or argument, as opposed to "false". True and false here only have a specific function constrained by the particular starting assumptions and conditions (which may or may not be true in a broader sense)

True: in older use "troth" What someone is prepared to swear to on oath. That which is firmly believed. This sense is a definite disconnect with truth as objective reality, believed or not.
A version of this has re-emerged with the concept of personal and relative truth: "It may not be true for you but it's true for me."

No, it's not simple.

Religion is the belief system of a group. Most people define their religion as being true and real to them. I think the real answer lies in putting pieces of all religions together to form a complete whole since one group or one collection of beliefs won't have all the answers.
