it's hot, it's cool, it's wild and it's boring....
it's got some of the most expensive property in the world, some of the most beautiful and most impressive buildings. it also has slums. it's got bright lights, broadway, wall street, harlem. it also has harlem, bed-stuy (bedford-stuyvesant), greenpoint, red hook, it has coney island (where the amusement park is closing this summer, after over 100 years, it's been sold to developers, who are going to be building high rise, high cost buildings)
there's an excitement there which can't be matched, both good and bad. the crime stats aren't great. and, to be honest, for all these things, i'm sure you are going to go. well, make sure you have plenty of warm clothes and plenty of cool ones, too. august in nyc is hell on earth. it's hot, muggy and tempers flare when the temperature rises. the subways are overcrowded and no one has the time to take you by the hand. buses run, but not all the time. same for the subway, get the map and study it, it will save you money, instead of taking taxis (and don't even think of bringing a car, unless you are independently wealthy, you won't manage the parking costs) again, unless you are wealthy, i can't see you managing an apartment in manhatten, and brooklyn and queens, at least the areas which are near manhatten (called 'the city' - all 5 boros are part of the city, but everyone only calls manhatten 'the city', and no one calls it 'manhatten') this leave staten island, and the bronx. staten island requires both the ferry and the staten island rapid transit, once you get there, and, again, the areas closest to the ferry are either really rundown, and not safe, or really expensive. the bronx is the bronx. i never really liked it, but, there are those who love the place. are there clubs and places? sure. some are great, and some are holes. you have to see the place, but, not everyone can live here. good luck.

you will be moving w/your parents right? or will you be going to college? NYC is not as wild as some might think. Yes there is always something going on at any given time. it is truly the city that never sleeps, but you will never be bored. NY is a mecca of entertainment, educational and just plain fun. The best way to really find out about NY is to know someone who lives here, someone who knows not only manhattan, but the other boroughs as well. 'cause there is more to NY than manhattan. good luck with your trip.

It depends on where you move to. NYC has a lot of different things to offer for it's very eclectic population. There are lot of things to do for children. Lots of events to be a part of if you are an activist. A very thriving night scene. Great art gallerys. Great dance studies. Great parks. Mediocre beaches. Awe-inspiring historical sites. Lots and lots.
Welcome to the City of New York! (it's actual name by the by)

Nothing at all like St. Pete.
The old people move quickly not like St. Pete.
No rednecks, like St. Pete.
Cold winters
No Walmarts
Better Food
Way better nightlife.
