rar files, like zip files, can be password protected. If you have a file that requires a password to open, you'll need to get the password from the person that gave you the file.

read the help file in winrar, did you or someone that zipped the file enter a password while it was being zipped? you will need to find out what the password is..

there is away to read all the files in the zip. if you have downloaded the file off the net, the person that zipped the file may have placed a readme file within the zipped file and what you need to do is look at the readme file for the password,

now some times it will ask for a password, just in enter and see if that works, it may be the file don't need a password

so I need to know more of what and where the file came from.

the password is something that the person who compress the file puts on it. you're going to need the password inorder for you to extract. if you don't know the password you might wanna go back to place you got the link from and ask for it

if the archive is passworded the creator of the archive should provide you with the pass, if not, you can crack the password with a program, but in case of long password it takes very long.. (you would't want to crack password that is 8 characters or longer - it takes years...)
