Does anybody here feel obligated to stay close their family when they move out, or do you think it is ok to go and explore living somewhere else? I want to, but I have a guilty conscience and I'm afraid that my guilty conscience will hold me back. How do I help myself get past this whole feeling guilty for moving away?

What if a family member was sick? They aren't hospitalized anymore, but should that stop me from exploring other locations in the world?

I didn't mean "anymore", I meant they aren't hospitalized or "anything"!

Live where you want to live. If your family is supportive, great, if they aren't, then they are being very selfish and will need to come to terms with some things personally. Either way, you have no control over them, but you can take control of your own life and steer it in a direction that will make you happy.

No. Matter of fact, I moved away from my family jsut to get the feeling of being on my own. It wasn't until I was in my 40's that I moved closer to take care of my parents as they were aging.

Move out, go where you want to go, with email and cell phones, it's easy to stay in touch.

Follow your dream or you will regret it later in life. You will also resent your family even though you made the choice if you stay. They make their own choices so you should too. You can always visit.
