it is just that when i don't see my boss i have nothing to do. ANd I am not a lazy person and I don't like to feel unproductive. I spend too much time online and I don't like it.

Maybe you could mention this to your boss.
"Hey, I'm not sure if you're aware, but these days I've been finishing the projects you give me with a lot of extra time. I'd like to be more productive... is there anything else I can work on?"

Damn, this sounds like me!

I hardly see my boss and she's 2 doors down from me. She's typically very busy and counts on me to work independently. I complete tasks by their deadline, so she doesn't have to worry about me missing deadlines or anything.

Sometimes I get nervous about it, but only b/c I've been micromanaged in the past. Other times I get offended b/c I'm her assistant, in so many words, but I never hear from her. It all comes down to her doing her work and me doing my work.

If I need information or help from her sometimes I have to schedule time with her, but it's no reflection on me and my work.

I would say that a rule of thumb would be that if you're getting your work done in a somewhat timely manner and there are no complaints from your boss, then you are a-ok.

Our nursing supervisor is only visible at one time during the day. This is when she walks down the hallway to the front entrance. We think she's dropped in by helicopter very early in the morning because no one ever sees her coming to work.
We contact her mostly by e-mail and she has her assistants to handle any daily problems. When we go to her office to see her, her secretary takes a message and says she'sll get back to us. We dont hold our breath.

My boss sits just down the hall from me and I never see her. This isn't a bad thing.

There isn't a boss here (over me) ... I work at a campus for a hospital. He's at the admin building. It's very nice!
