Yes I have. When I was experimenting with various religions I experimented with a group among whom this was a regular occurrence. The first time I saw it I was freaked out. As time went by I saw it more and more and began to look closer at the behaviour. I would notice that as more and more people were "overcome with the spirit" I would become more and more anxious. I was told this was me being touched by the spirit, but somehow it just didn't feel right. While I saw many people who were very happy while feeling the sensation, it disturbed me. I recognized later that what I was reacting to was group hysteria. I am NOT saying that was the case with everyone else. I am in no way judging what it is you experience, nor am I saying it isn't real. I am saying that while I didn't actually speak in tongues the sensation I got was not an enjoyable one and realized VERY fast that this was not for me. This coupled with how much I disagreed with this religions beliefs had me soon searching elsewhere.

I have seen someone speak in tongues(at least that's what they tell me they were doing) for me it was strange and it really scared me a little...I was not sure what to do should i watch, look away? I was watching the preacher but i couldn't concentrate on anything except the person that was speaking in tongues, but when they fell down and started rolling around i was thinking maybe they were having a seizure and we were all just watching...no, I'm not making fun I was really concerned....I was raised Baptist

Yes, to both. Many, many times over the years.
I personally believe it's a form of votive, ecstatic meditation triggered by emotion, creating a cascade effect of serotonin and related chemical releases in the brain, and that once you know how to do it, you just can. I prefer rune galdor now.
Norse Folktru Reconstructionist Heathen now, Pentecostal/Charismatic/Xian mystic then . . . though I've also spoken in tongues as a Buddhist and as an atheist. Yep . . . really.

I did for a couple hours a few years ago when I suffered a mini-stroke.
People should think of why the early Christians spoke in tongues. It was to be understood! Instant Berlitz.
Today, many think it is to be confused is religious from God. It is not. Only Satan works to confuse.

I am a Non-Denominational Christian. My faith is based on accurate research of the Bible.
Yes, I have seen people speak in tongues before. I also speak in tongues occasionally.
Contrary to some of the mindless answers I've seen here, it is not evil. It is also not mindless jibberish. The Bible describes it as perfect prayer, a perfect way to commune with GOD.
Why do you ask?

I saw it on that movie Borat.
It scared me.
I've never seen anyone do it in person although when I was in high school I had a pentacostal friend who spoke in tongues. I never saw her do it. We always asked her to but she said it wasn't a language and that she basically couldn't just speak in tongues on command. She said it just happened sometimes when she was at church.
Personally, I think it's a mental disorder produced by brainwashing.
I am atheist.

Yes, in 1971 in Aspen Colorado in a parking lot at Maroon Bells. She looked normal enough, but when she started babbling, it looked like she was possessed or having a seizure of some sort. A deeply sad voice, and strangely melodic. When she came out of it, I asked her if she knew what she had said meant. She said she never knew, and the episodes scared the hell out of her. Completely involuntary, it seems. At the time I was deeply devout; now I am exclusively secular.

This question comes up about a dozen times each week.
Nearly everyone agrees what is heard in today's assemblies, is nothing more than babble.
If a non member unfamiliar with the truth, were present, and needed someone to explain in their language, and you were capable of helping out, that would be speaking in tongues, And it would be practical.
I am afraid that which you refer to isn't christian.
