I've been ill with tonsillitis and have been on a course of penicillin. I'm better now, have been for a few days, but I'm on the medicine until Saturday.

How long do you have to wait after being on meds before getting a tattoo? I've looked on google and various sites but can't find anything that helps.

Thanks!

My friend is a tattoist. He said you can get one the penicillin wont do nothing but help it heal. So go ahead and get one. I just called him.

If you're on antibiotics it doesn't matter when you have a tattoo. I know someone who is having a tattoo done (over time) at the moment and they're on antibiotics all the time. if anything it should help stop any infection you may get. The only things you shouldn't take just before getting a tattoo done are medications like warfarin or aspirin or any others to thin your blood. Of course, make sure you don't drink alcohol either.

To be honest I dont think it will matter if you are on penecillin. What you do want to make sure is that you have something sugary and sweet before you have the tattoo. Because the tattoo process can be painful the body will use adrenilin and the usage of adrenilin within the body will lower your blood sugar level and if it drops below a certain level you may actually faint.

I really don't think it should matter.
The only thing I was told was that you couldn't have alcohol in your system. I never heard anything about prescriptions.
I would ask your tattoo artist just to be on the safe side.

You can ask your doctor however I think you can get one done & the penicillin will help to protect angainst any germs.
