Here's some unique places I considered for my own wedding
Garfield Conservatory - huge gorgeous green house, http://www.garfield-conservatory.org/
Prairie Productions - photography studio, http://prairieproduction.net/
Galleria Marchetti - http://www.galleriamarchetti.com/
Promontory Point - http://www.hydeparkhistory.org/parks.html
We ended up going with the Germania Place, http://www.germaniaplace.com/, which is a little more traditional than I would have liked but absolutely stunning and in a great area of the city.
Hope this helps,
O

The Cultural Center is beautiful, but I don't know if they do weddings.
There's a recreation of the historic Chicago Stock Market in the Art Institute. My school had our graduation reception there after our commencement in the auditorium.
If you want something outdoors maybe the Rookery at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Or the butterfly room at the Academy of Sciences.

If you are planning a late spring to early fall wedding you can go to a forest preserve in the suburbs and rent it for a day. I had some friends do that back in 2000. It cost them $50.
It was a beautiful wedding. They really did not have to decorate because mother nature decorated it for them.

You might look into getting married in a park or on one of the city beaches.
Some friends of mine got married in Sycamore--60 miles west of Chicago in this little wedding chapel. It was fantastic.

One of my friends got married in the atrium of the Sears Tower and then had the reception up above the Sky Deck.
There were about 150people in the Atrium. I have no idea the cost, though.

I was but it wasn't downtown. It was in a suburb. It was at the Cuneo Museum, which was featured in My Best Friend's Wedding. It was really nice but I think it was pretty expensive.

See if they will let you get married in the entry way of the Tribune building. That building is magnificent inside, and the space would hold a fair number of people, too.
