Don't you love it when you ask a good question and a bunch of idiots get on and have no idea what you mean? Ask something like "what can I name my chipoonoodle" though and they come out of the woodwork. Amazing!!!!!!!!

It has been proven that BSL does not work to eliminate or reduce the amounts of dog bites. I think BSL is just another way AR groups are trying to end all dog ownership. I think the media creates the fear of certain breeds and because of the fear that is created by sensationalizing bites from certain dogs, people believe what they hear and back BSL but what they do not realize is that once one breed has been banned, it will open the door to any and every breed being banned.
Here is an example of what will happen if people do not start paying attention to BSL, and my guess is that list will get bigger.
In Italy they started out with a list of 13 dogs on the dangerous dog list and the list has now climbed to 92 and the dogs on the list are not all large breed dogs there are dogs on the list such as Corgis, Schipperkes and Schnauzers.
This is exactly where we are headed if we allow BSL.
I believe that stiffer penalties (jail time and hefty fines) should be imposed on people who use dogs for illegal purposes or for people who chose to keep dangerous dogs also, for owners that fail to train, socialize and contain their dogs. I bet if you had to go to jail and/or it hurt your pocket, people would be more inclined to research dogs before they got one. People need to be educated about dogs in general, they need to understand pack mentality and behavior. What people need to do is start being responsible when chosing and raising a dog. They need to quit buying dogs based on looks alone and be honest in their ability to handle certain breeds because not all breeds are suited for everyone.
The bottom line is until the law starts making PEOPLE responsible for their actions and the actions of their dog, BSL will change nothing except make certain dogs breeds extinct. I fear that if BSL is not stopped eventually we have have to visit dogs in the zoo with the rest of the wild and dangerous animals.
Punish the deed not the breed.

As a pet owner that owns one of those breeds it saddens me a great deal. They should be focusing on the owners and better laws instead of innocent dogs. If this continues any dog breed could be targeted (added to their list)
BSL will not solve the problem!
AND banned or not I'm keeping my girl!

BSL- Bull Sh*t Legislation! Blame the deed, not the breed.
I was bit by a schnauzer as a child and a cocker spaniel as a teenager. Why aren't we banning those breeds while we're at it? Because it's all Bullsh*t!
I don't own any bully breeds, but that's just because I prefer northern breeds. And I get enough crap from people about them being wolves or wolf-dogs.
What we need is better breed education. Most people can't even identify a pit bull. They just assume anything with a blocky head, or an eye patch, or cropped ears, or whatever, is a dangerous dog.

BSL- Breed Specific Legislation.
Unfortunately, it's the dogs that pay for the errant behavior of humans. It shouldn't be an issue- but it is. I've known a lot of great pits, rots, dobe's and love my GSD. But, I've also seen what people to to these dogs when the come into the shelter. Something has to be done...

I don't own a Pit Bull but I don't dislike them either. Denver, CO passed this bull sh*t law. So far Denver alone has killed over 800 dogs. The exciting news is the city of Denever has been hauled into court.According to the "Denver Post", a few dog owners have joined arms & filed a law suit. Owners need to stop taking this BS ! Politians like this don't get in office if they don't have enough votes. I thank god everyday Chihuahuas don't weigh 150LBS, from what I have seen their more agressive then any breed that is on BSL list.

This is not only aimed at pitbulls but ones that look close to them. Criminals habitually break laws, so having an "illegal breed" may indeed be attractive to them and might make them want to breed and sell more "illegal dogs". If their dog is confiscated and killed, they really don't care. They will just get another one because breed bans punish the dog, not the owner.
ANY...I repeat ANY dog can be dangerous. Poodles can be just as dangerous and deadly,if more than a pit. People must understand they cannot punish the breed....they must punish the DEED. And is it really a dogs fault its violent?? No an owner makes them this way. The people should also have to pay for such things.

It's crazy. Any dog is as good or bad as the person who owns it. Any dog if it is trained can be a great companion. Any dog who is allowed to do as it wishes can be nasty.
I know for sure I trust my neighbors Pit Bull with my 4 Chihuahua's more than I do that nasty little JRT down the street. Simply because the Pit is trained and the JRT is not.
People class all dogs by the bad ones. I get looks of horror when I say I have 4 Chihuahua's and questions like "how do you put up with all that yapping." Mine don;t yap because I have trained them not to. They bark when someone rings the door bell, but one word from me they go back to what they were doing. I love my breed and my dogs so I make them the best they can possibly be for me and for them.
Good dogs are not newsworthy so you never hear about the many good ones. Just the few bad ones. They make it bad for everyone.

BSL or Breed Specific Legislation is a knee-jerk reaction enacted by ignorant lawmakers who are trying to win votes so they can eat at the public trough while passing meaningless and prejudicial laws that destroy our individual rights and put thousands of innocent dogs to death.
It is evil.

Bad - punishes innocent dogs while allowing aggressive dogs/idiot owners of other breeds to slip through the cracks.
As a groomer the breeds I worry about are the cute ones, like lhasa apsos and cocker spaniels (and CHIHUAHUAS, boy are they nasty!). These are the ones I'm likely to get bitten by.

I don't think it's fair, by any means. Not to mention people preach about not being prejudice, but then again this world is filled with hypocrites. I fight every day to keep my Pit alive and protected from legislation and those who have NO understanding of the breed....Wouldn't you do the same for your child???
