I was reading an article reguarding the illegal hotline but found in that article that he is also arresting illegal aliens who go to the jail to visit family members in an effort to combat illegal immigration. What are your thoughts and opinions on this? I think it's a good thing,do you?
Here's a bit of it with the link....
In fact, Arpaio told The Republic, he is stepping up efforts to crack down on illegal immigration by forbidding undocumented immigrants to visit friends and family in county jails. "Once they come in, we're going to have to arrest them and turn them over to ICE."

Stone Cold, you are right, certainly not all who visit are illegal and i'm sure he'll see some law suits but luckily he's the kind of guy who stands his ground and gets things done so I think he'll get through it especially with all the support he has.
Yes,he is the very same Joe!

Sounds like a great idea, but not nearly enough to stem the tide of illegals. But how about this, instead of waiting for the government to do something about it why don't employers quit giving illegals jobs? We all have had them, and we all know who are legal and who are not. Fake documents are easy to tell. No jobs, no reason to come, no pay stubs no loans or credit cards, no social security benefits, etc.
Don't even say that no one would do the jobs they have, because we have large groups of people in our country that take services and don't contribute. ie welfare recipients, people on unemployment, prisoners etc. Perhaps we should expect more from them and rely less on illegals.
Cheap labor is not really cheap all things considered.

I think the hot line is a good first start. Most people in the country want to see our immigration laws enforced, why do we have to keep fighting the illegals and their enablers at every turn to do something that is our right. This also includes our elected officials like the likes of Ted Kennedy, John Kly and Lindsay Graham, that just will not take no for a answer
Sheriff Joe is doing the right thing

Absolutely agree with his stand on arresting illegals! Especially after reading my local hometown paper that tells of 3 illegals stopped in their cars recently, and the next thing I thought I would be reading is that they were going to be deported, but NOOOOOOO! The sheriff over there in Ottawa County says, "I do not have the right to deport them, nor do I have the right to hold them if they do not have any pending charges, believe it or not, (immigration officials WAIT until a crime is committed, and then they deport them" So guess who went to pick up these "illegals"? Their EMPLOYER from the tomato company they work for! I wish half the men in charge of these "illegals" had half the balls that sheriff Joe has. You would think the laws would be the same in every state.

Ok, reported. You wanted it. As for Joe, he is great. Makes criminals dress in pink under clothes, live in tents and do hard labor. No cable except the weather channel so they can see how hot it's gonna be that day. He said if our military can do it, they can! Go Sheriff Joe!

If you want to come to this country do it LEGALLY. It's very simple. I know it must be a complicated process but if you really do want to become a citizen of the US then you will just have to tough it out for however long it takes.
I'm a US citizen and I can't do anything illegal without suffering the concequences if I get caught. So why does everyone have sympathy for all of these people who break the law by entering our country illegally. It's very simple.
(I usually don't edit my answers but I just read the one's below me and it is SO NICE to actually see some level headed people answer this question. I'm sure i'll see some liberals who say that it's a crime to arrest illegal aliens and he should be punished, but it is just really cool to see people stand up for what's right in this country, kudos to you all.)

Like any other hotline, this is to serve public good. It's not profiling..it's law enforcement. It is no different from any other crime-stoppers hot-lines.
Way to go, Joe!!!!

He actually may be breaking a law.An International Law which prohibits placing restrictions or places family members of detained persons in a position of arrest themselves.I'll be interested to see how this plays out over the next few months.
BTW thanks for posting this. It's very interesting!

Not to disagree with you Micky, but not all could possibly be illegal who go in to visit. So more than likely, although I like his style, he'll probably get hit with lawsuits over it.
btw - is this the same Sheriff Joe who transports them after arrested to that facility where the warden has them living in tents, and breaking rock all day. Those are the types of guys all the states need. To do the jobs that our elected officials won't do.

I am all for legal immigrants coming here, but I am fed up with allowing people who are BREAKING THE LAW to just run around unfettered. SO I agree with Joe Arpaio on this and I hope that someone in my area has the cajones to do something similar!
I can't believe the attorney quoted in the piece "profiled" the immigrants. Here's what he said:
"What right does he have to investigate people based on the color of their skin, or their accent or the way they look," said Phoenix attorney Antonio Bustamante. "I want him to stop this nonsense and enforce criminal law instead of going after landscapers and nannies. He needs to stop this hotline."
Landscapers and Nannies? Really?

There is NOTHING wrong with this.
It is the equivalent of the cops arresting the guy for driving after he left the court where they just suspended his license (it happens ALL the time).
An illegal immigrant visiting the jail is like a drunk driver pulling up to a policecar and asking directions.
