I got my first cartilage piercing at 18. I was scared that it would hurt, but it actually was less painful than my lobe piercings. I got another cartilage piercing in the same ear two years later with no issues. The only time it seems to cause discomfort is when my hair gets caught in the earring or if I sleep on it weird.
Additional infor: I got both piercings done at Afterthoughts, which is now Icing by Claires.

I got my cartilage pierced about two or three months ago. It did hurt afterward. It was really sore to the touch and when it was bumped a tear would form in my eye...it was painful. But with all that said, Before I got it done I was told that it was painful and that did not scare me away. I think it is cute and when it heals you can put any type of earring you want in it...You should get it done!!! In about a week or two I'm going to get my other ear cartilage pierced...If it hurts that bad I would be getting the other ear done. Get it done...You will enjoy it in the long run.

This is one of the most painful piercings (it's been 4 months and it still hurts every once in a while if I sleep on it). It doesn't hurt doing the piercing it's the healing process that hurts (for weeks) but if you don't roll over a lot in your sleep and therefore wont sleep on it then it wont hurt as badly as mine did (I toss and turn a lot). And FYI don't get it done with a piercing gun (they're not sanitary and) it could shatter your cartilage.
Here's a site that tells you how to care for the piercing after you have it done.

I had mine done, I will say that I had to take mine out. They did hurt for about 2 days because of just the irritation. The way the lady had them pierced, it made them become infected and it was horrifying. I would HIGHLY suggest, if you do decide to get them done, go to a tattoo/piercing shop. They will do it with a needle instead of a gun. The piercing guns they use at walmart, claires, ect, rips the skin and it will take longer to heal. With a needle, they are much faster, cleaner, and they will heal faster. And no, it doesn't matter which ear you put it in ^_^. Best of luck if you get it done!

I recently had my cartilage pierced, and i couldn't stand it. Afterwards it burned and itched and was soooo sore that I just removed my earings and let it heal closed...I have quite a few tattoos, but the cartilage i couldn't handle, I think the irritation just got too annoying, and it can take up to 6 weeks for the holes to "heal" enough to be able to switch out to different jewelry.

i have three peircings on each ear. one of those is cartiage. most people say it hurts, but honestly it didnt feel much worse than a regular ear peircing when i got it done. maybe it does hurt more, and maybe its just because i've gotten my ears peirced so many times, or maybe im just weird, but i can tell you the pain is not excruciating. ( it will go away after a couple days) and if you clean it and take care of it like your supposed to it will not continue to hurt. if it does, you may have an infection. cartilage peircing are one of the most easily infected so clean it atleast twice aday. i know this seems like alot of work but its worth it. when its all said and done you will be glad you did it. you'll love the look. i do.

Nothing to fear. If it customary and ritualistic in your family just accept it. But see that the piercing is done by well versed people adopting clean and healthy practices and the instruments are (needles) sterilized. You may feel the discom fort for a few more days wlhilst sleeping but it will be of ordinary nature and bearable lev el. Go for it. Wishes.

I had my left ear done, (white, hetero, female)....not sure that it matters, because you represent YOU. You are your own person!
Neway- It hurts like heck - but only for a little bit. You won't be able to sleep on it for a week or so, but you'll be really GLAD that you did it!! It's such an accomplishment. I had to take mine out for a trip overseas - because we were going into an African tribe who really did have STRONG cultural beliefs about peircings, so I respected that and took it out, and it grew back in less than 24 hours. I still have a tiny bump of a scar.
go for it!!!

nah, unless you take pain really badly. im 15 and i peirced mine myself when i was 14, its good and not infrected at all. it didnt hurt a bit for me. just to be safe though, dont do it yourself like me, it was probably stupid, but if you do make sure to use a proper peircing needle and clean it VERY well. just go to a good tatoo parlor, theyre really good and it shouldnt hurt a bit. it may get hot and youll feel pulsing, but it only stings for like a second while the needle goes through. its very quick. make sure not t o get it done with a gun or your cartlage could shatter, and that would hurt like a BlTCH!

I dont remember mine hurting. I have had it for about 11 years now and I havent had any problems with it since it healed. Just make sure you take care of it when you get it done and you shouldnt have any problems.
